imo denigrating "auteur fetishists" can be useful in a rockist context when people are putting britney spears down or whoever and there are some problematic racial/sexist implications, but me pining for the jeremih of old is hardly the same thing

i mean i just thought it was a lame song and preferred the kind of career jeremih used to have and his old style. i understand him having to hop on trends tho (and obv his career was built on biting dudes like the-dream anyway, so..)

but anyway i've come around on the song a bit, i think it's a respectable 6/10 joint, but it's obviously more of a mustard (who i'm ambivalent about) vehicle than a jeremih one. there's not a lot of technical or emotional range; it's a limited song

yeah it's fine but what stops me getting excited isn't so much where it fits into jeremih's career as where it fits into mustard's; it's a mustard vehicle that isn't even in the top tier of mustard 2014 singles

i don't think it's much to get excited about as a song itself but as an agent to get his album matriculating i feel pretty good about it

which perhaps is an objectionable way of looking at the song but such are the economic realities of popular r&b in 2014

Not sure if I buy the "reclusive" angle—he's not, really—or that any of this rises that far beyond normal A&R disorganization. Interesting to learn he's probably to blame for not having a video though; lotta people wonder about that one

"Oui" sounds great on the radio but "Pass Dat" is incredible and really sets my expectations high for this album

yeah, jeremih is one place where the three of our tastes really intersect, this is great

easily one of the best albums i've heard this year

if you took out "give no fuks"/"feel like phil"/"royalty" and cut the tracklist down to 12 songs i would consider this a nearly perfect record. every other song ranges from good to incredible.

thinking this is ultimately p good (unexpectedly so from my pov) with fitful lucid periods of inspiration. would have liked to go higher cos u can see almost touch a special album, or what a special album would be like, thru the party smoke but even with rejigging i think it might still just come up a couple songs short. a wonderful extendo ep for sure however
