guessing there will be some great interviews with some great people, then dave steps to the mic and goes ABERDEEN SURVIVOR TEARS CORPORATE MAGAZINES STILL SUCK BUT ROCK STILL LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES

Yep. Grohl seems like a truly inquisitive and interested and motivationally pure guy, but has a difficult time channeling what he's learned into his own songs/writings/interviews.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:12 (nine years ago) link

he does appear to have a bottomless well of self-help platitudes

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:13 (nine years ago) link

keep hoping someone other than dave in the band is going to get to express an emotion other than "i dunno much about this shit, but this place was pretty cool"

remembered while watching the nashville one some spin article years ago where the rest of the band admitted they didn't know the words to "monkeywrench"

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:13 (nine years ago) link

On the plus side: Pat's one line per ep.
On the negative side: Taylor's two-lines and slo-mo soul-search walk per ep.

Foo Fighters should collectively move to a new city each year and record one song after 12 months of residency. Then release their next album in 12 years. I give them permission to film themselves as a "Real World" styled show in each town as long as they stick to the schedule.

can we get just one "some kind of monster" breakdown where nate mendel throws down his bass and says I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT NEW ORLEANS

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:17 (nine years ago) link

i mean probably not, these guys seem like the chillest bros, but i can dream

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:18 (nine years ago) link

this is definitely the worst show i love

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:19 (nine years ago) link

Dave wrote "Monkeywrench" after he saw a movie where a MONKEY tried to WRENCH the door off of its cage.

In the DC one, where they shoot out a list of the bands influenced by the local scene there, and the first three that come to mind are Jane's Addiction, Beastie Boys, Green Day, I almost barfed.

Alternate sequel album: the band breaks up, and each member records a 5 songs in 5 different states, then they put all the EPs together as one album called "United States of Foo Fighters," and also it takes a decade to make, too. Vig produces.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:19 (nine years ago) link

I think if there was going to be anything like that, it would've happened 15 years ago. At this point, they're only a "band" in theory. In reality, they're friends that Dave Grohl gives checks to for helping him play his songs.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:20 (nine years ago) link

yeah i realize this line-up achieved "five guys who can stand dave grohl and like money" about a decade ago

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:21 (nine years ago) link

this show is definitely forcing me to address all my own hypocritical bullshit vanity re pop/rock/indie/authenticity etc - can i really say i'm keeping the dream alive when i'm making spotify playlists of AM Gold?

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:23 (nine years ago) link

are they going to L.A...? I kinda assumed so when Joan Jett's involvement was noted. at which point maybe Pat will get more than one line to talk about the Germs.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:24 (nine years ago) link

5 "Los Angeles" November 14, 2014
6 "New Orleans" November 21, 2014
7 "Seattle" November 28, 2014
8 "New York" December 5, 2014

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:25 (nine years ago) link

they are! yeah that's promising...though i bet there's going to be some impressive waffling between which hair metal bands suck and which were cool

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

like how the band chicago was included in the "great bands of chicago" montage and then there was some random styx diss later in the episode

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:26 (nine years ago) link

I've got no argument with the cities they're choosing—all of them are essential American music hubs—but no Detroit? C'mon.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

xp I love Chicago and hate Styx, so I get that.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

"well, iggy told me to go fuck myself, and bob seger wants to get paid...kid rock...fuck it, i can't"

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:28 (nine years ago) link

maybe they're saving the shaggy 2 dope and wayne kramer interviews for the second season

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

a monkeywrench is an actual tool, right? kinda like ppl who hate on Dave Grohl for 500 posts.

I liked that early song about all the cows

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link

i'm sorry, morbz. please ignore me.

da croupier, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:31 (nine years ago) link

austin is kinda weird just because it's not really that significant historically compared to the other cities

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

That show wasn't really about the city. It was about the show originating in that city that brought live music around the whole country like it had never been broadcast previously. And also Townes Van Zandt.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

(And Roky Erickson.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

i'm behind, just weird that they didn't do memphis or (as mentioned) detroit

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:38 (nine years ago) link

There are definitely enough cities left over for a second series to take place, but is there any talk about that happening? The album's done and out now.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:40 (nine years ago) link

ha weird I totally assumed they were going to Detroit

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:43 (nine years ago) link

there is no way that New Orleans episode won't be an embarassment

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

then again maybe it will be all Master P/Li'l Wayne/Curren$y lol

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

Will laugh my ass off if they interview anyone from Dash Rip Rock or Better Than Ezra.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 November 2014 20:45 (nine years ago) link

*writes in notebook* "the hustle...can't knock the hustle...soldiers and saints...Mannie Fresh plays the mamba..."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 13 November 2014 21:20 (nine years ago) link

give kawhi his damn eyedrops (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 13 November 2014 21:26 (nine years ago) link

Dr. John typically gets trotted out for these things. one of the Neville bros too probably.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 13 November 2014 21:26 (nine years ago) link

it will literally just be an episode of Treme with Grohl dropped into the Steve Zahn role

nakhchi little van (some dude), Thursday, 13 November 2014 21:27 (nine years ago) link

^^^^^^^^^SO FUCKING OTM, also the main reason why i could not abide an entire episode of treme ever

give kawhi his damn eyedrops (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 13 November 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

Im surprised at no Minneapolis

Master of Treacle, Thursday, 13 November 2014 22:09 (nine years ago) link

Regards New Orleans I would have liked Grohl to talk to Earl Palmer, but forgot he died in 08

Master of Treacle, Thursday, 13 November 2014 22:12 (nine years ago) link

in new orleans he shoots smack with eyehategod

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 13 November 2014 23:13 (nine years ago) link

tylerw, Thursday, 13 November 2014 23:14 (nine years ago) link

i know it was a shame he was just tryin ta play some real music from the heart

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 13 November 2014 23:15 (nine years ago) link

In New Orleans, Uncle Dave high fives drunken, misogynistic sexploits with Greg Dulli in his bar .

In New York , the first three fifths sees the Foos concentrate on GG Allin's last stadium show. Out of respect, the gurning drummer curls one out of the back of his mountain bike at the site of the Gas Station, where the Geeg was last seen. He hurls the results at some nearby donut eating cops.
Dave gets all sombre and reflective, before emitting a brutal two note scream. Him and the fuzz join forces to perform a scatty rendition of YMCA

just watched the Chicago ep

cousin stuff got me so amped up. Going to a Naked Raygun show when you're eleven!!??? fucking yessss

also albini is great

i liked the buddy guy / bonnie raitt stuff but it felt a bit too collagey compared to the punk realness. like there was less of a clear personal connection from dave, he revered them but it's diff to albini or raygun etc

if i get to see some more stuff like that i'll even listen to these new songs
they are very foofighters.xls though, like it bums me out that these are the only kind of songs they do forever

like bust out some probot metal or jam with these other dudes yr band is kind of boring now dave sorry

i still kinda quietly like them
they just bum me out a bit

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 14 November 2014 05:44 (nine years ago) link

Dave's cousin is def highlight of the show

punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 November 2014 13:24 (nine years ago) link
