― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link
"take u home 2 my mama" is secretly one of the best songs on the album - maybe the most out and out fun song he's ever done and also it's got the great transition into "love vs money"
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 23:41 (fifteen years ago) link
ha, that's the only one i skip

which is one of the various reasons why i love it
yeah, it is hilarious, even if the chorus is kinda dinky

The part in "Kelly's 12 Play" where he does those R. Kelly "OHHH-OH-OH-OH-OH-OH-OH-OHOHHHH" vocal runs = A+

The melodic contour on the first set rises, while on the second it goes up and down. Fitting, in it's way.

atm my favorite verse on the alb is
Whoo Well if they ask you can I sing like Usher Say no But I could make you sing like Mariah Ooooo If they ask you do I dance like Chris? Tell them no But as much rubbing as we do I could start a fire Hey... bring the water We... sweating out the sheets Shorty bring that body back to me Shorty round after round it's going down Call me Ali the way I knocked your ass out
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Friday, 3 April 2009 08:48 (fifteen years ago) link
unfortunate placing of "chris" and "knocked your ass out" notwithstanding
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Friday, 3 April 2009 08:49 (fifteen years ago) link
I'm starting to think "Love vs Money" is the best song. There's quite some anguish going on there.

part 1, that is
― sugjust blaze (The Reverend), Friday, 3 April 2009 08:55 (fifteen years ago) link
it's my favorite too - all that clattering at the beginning and the slowed and pitched down "i wanted to take you home to my mama, but no" and then it locks into the verse and "WHAT WE HAD WAS AWWWWWESOME/ UNTIL HE CAME AND TOOK YOU OUT MY LIFE" and it's on
― strøm thurmond (J0rdan S.), Friday, 3 April 2009 09:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Revisiting the first album for a sec, it was commented on that at the end of "Playin' in Her Hair", Dream randomly decides to turn into a club anthem. I like how "Nikki" starts to go the same route and then pulls back just as suddenly.
My love's like a windowThat's if you didn't knowPeace up, A down, ride outCause I'm sittin' in the '64That's if you didn't knowBaby I'm all cried out
It's as if his good mood on the former allows him to let loose and party for a bit, but on the latter his attempts at escapism fail him.

I have listened to this album every day since first getting it. When I get into work some mornings I can't talk because my throat's worn out from singing along in the car.

i basically skip the entire first half of the album tbh
― autogucci cru (deej), Tuesday, 28 April 2009 22:45 (fifteen years ago) link
not saying its bad or whatever, just saying i really replay the last half a lot more
Agreed. If the whole album was as good as the second half it would come in ahead of Love/Hate - instead I feel it ranks slightly behind it.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 28 April 2009 22:47 (fifteen years ago) link
its funny cuz songs like 'mr. yeah' and 'right side' dont feel like big important highlights, they just feel like really truly great album tracks. if that makes any sense
really want to write about this album for a publication of some kind
― autogucci cru (deej), Tuesday, 28 April 2009 22:49 (fifteen years ago) link
i always skip the first 3 songs and sometimes the first two ballads but i think it's more of a sequencing issue than song quality
― GOON carter cash (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 April 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link
i sometimes start at 'love vs money', just cuz i caned the singles so much as standalone tracks when they emerged, but the first half is absolutely crucial to the second half and pretty much as good - listening all the way through really pays off too. it's perfectly sequenced, really.

Am I the only noticing he's got some twangy vocals going on in parts of "Rockin That Shit" and "Take U Home 2 My Mama"? Where did that come from?
― cumlord jamar (The Reverend), Thursday, 7 May 2009 08:34 (fifteen years ago) link
like what lines would you say are twangy on "Rockin'"?
― shipforbrains (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link
i always thought i was just hearing things but right at the 1 min mark of "rockin that shit" after he says "nothin i can saayyy.." the beat drops out and you hear this little blip and it's the same sound that happens when you get an IM on ichat
