This is the best description I have read about this album. Missed this poll, but I'm sure I'm gonna put the Gridlink album really high in the regular poll.
Love reading this poll and all the postings and the albums and stuff, but the way.

Old Man Gloom
Santos Montano – drums (1999–present) Aaron Turner (Isis, Mamiffer) – guitar, vocals (1999–present) Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders) – guitar, vocals (2000–present) Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Zozobra) – bass guitar, vocals (2000–present)
funnily enough I got into OMG before Isis, Converge, Cave In with that first album

Re-listening to the Morbus Chron now, and really wishing I placed it higher. Haven't heard the Gridlink yet, and from the descriptions it sounds like my kind of Grind ('cause the Trap Them left me feeling a little cold this year) - really hoping to pick it up soon.

Bunch of stuff in the top 50 that was (and still is) in my stuff-to-check-out list: Thantifaxath (top 5 g.o.a.t. band name), The Body, Thou, Witch Mountain, Hail Spirit Noir, Have a Nice Life. Listened to some of the Boris album; that's p cool yoo. Reminds me a little of the Vaura album; seems like a lot of twilit postpunk mixed in there--I'd almost call it their White Pony...

I love the clarity on this one. It gives the chaos kind of an aerial feel, like it's all set against a beautiful clear blue sky.
100% agree with this. it doesn't do the same stuff to my brain that most grind does. extremely fast and busy but highly structured (not chaotic) and not at all rigid. it's a little hard to describe but I find it easy to get lost in.
I was the other one with gridlink at #1
― original bgm, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 22:32 (nine years ago) link
cover is really funny but I do wish it were on some other album. heavy cosplay vibes.
― original bgm, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 22:34 (nine years ago) link
i just think it's an appropriate cover for the sleekest gridlink album
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 22:42 (nine years ago) link
I like that cover. It's a nice cue that the emotions to be explored on this album are closely related to anime melodramatics.
It's also an example of cosplay gone good.
― jmm, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link
It's not cosplay as much as latex fetish wear. I participated in a fashion show with a designer who specialized in latex about 14 yrs ago. Looked great on the women, men, not so much ;)

Were there any other noteworthy funeral doom records this year?
'Kadotetut' by Vainaja had some funeral-y parts and was very well executed imo
― cornelius pardew (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link
Oh yeah that Vainaja record is better than either of the Wijlen Wij en Ea records. Forgot where I placed it in my ballot exactly but it made my top 50.

loving this rundown.
via this thread, i think i have come to realise my sweetspot : 70s stoner/doom styled
my take so far :
love the oath - going to buylove electric wizard (i know they have not yet appeared in this list, but have been reading/listening following advise here and elsewhere) - going to buyenjoyed the witch mountain - may buylove monster magnet - but i now have 4 albumsby them, and not sure i need more.enjoyed have a nice life - not metal
did not like gridlinkdid not like myrkurdid not like comet control
i could not vote as i did not qualify for the minimum of 5 albums in the poll.however, had i been able to do so, i would have dropped earths album, primitive and deadly, at the #1 spot, followed closely by blues pills, both of which have been top of my playlist this year.
keep up the good work folks.

xp would have thought Comet Control might hit the stoner/doom sweet-spot? More heavy psych I guess. I need to check Witch Mountain and The Oath.
