a day early for the joke #1s i think

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:29 (nine years ago) link

I think if there had been one more track to make it longer then maybe more may have liked it

More people should have bought the Japanese 2CD version, then. Bonus track with Attila Csihar! (Plus a demo version of one of the Disc 1 tracks that was basically identical to the final version.)

I do what I want to!

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:29 (nine years ago) link

i very much intend to listen to that black veil brides record

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

Album 666 must be coming up next.

jmm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:32 (nine years ago) link

awesome that Jute Gyte made it! however I do find it utterly weird how Vast Chains came 19th in this poll, whereas Ressentiment (which I think is slightly better) is outside the top hundred. guess ppl had to pick one? or there's no accounting for taste. idk. well done ilm anyway. both albums truly next-level

imago, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:38 (nine years ago) link

o shit j3ff, this midnight odyssey album

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:39 (nine years ago) link

I'm surprised Slough Feg made it, let alone this high. For trad metal I thought Accept, or maybe even something Falconer, was better. Or Grand Magus. But I guess they may be coming.

Devilock, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link

something ^like Falconer

Devilock, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link

My top 3 were Vast Chains, Botanist, Panopticon. I'm liking this stretch!

xposts Do we know that Ressentiment didn't make it? I couldn't connect with it as much.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:42 (nine years ago) link

Ressentiment is still coming right? That was my #2; I'd be shocked

wonderful about a proletariat-Vorticist version of James Brown (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:43 (nine years ago) link

Of course CS did say virtually no one else liked that album better. Itd be weird if it showed uo higher

completely forgot about the jute gyte when i made my list, both would have placed high. xp - i couldn't decide between botanist and panopticon as my number 1, went botanist in the end as i thought it needed more help in the poll

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link

slough feg album is definitely uneven, but the best tracks ("laser enforcer" for obvs) are among the best of the year by anyone period, and the whole thing has a winning (and, yeah, slough feg typical) combination of true oddity, catchy songcraft, musicianship, smarts and human personality.

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:50 (nine years ago) link

no more panopticon fans??

me for one. love the band/album. would have likely made my top 10, if i'd managed to put a ballot together. mostly, though, i'm pissed that the vinyl was so stupid limited.

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:51 (nine years ago) link

sweet! Nice album to get 666 points!!

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

i def. got some use out of panopticon this year

j., Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

for BM bands I learned about this year, Botanist > Panopticon.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:55 (nine years ago) link

i think both bands have put together a fantastic run of albums, i can't say which i prefer. Soma is great too, again surprised it placed quite so high.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:57 (nine years ago) link

One more to come tonight. Why do people never try to guess the top 10 before we get to it!

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:58 (nine years ago) link

what am i saying, only one of those bands dress as plants when they perform, so botanist it is

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:58 (nine years ago) link

Hey, Bölzer did well. I thought being an EP might have kept it from getting votes. That was definitely my favourite death metal this year.

jmm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

earth, yob, pallbearer, scottO))), what else..

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

xp cause its never what we think it is.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

oh, agalloch too

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

I can predict YOB being within the 10-7 range.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

Darkspace, Triptykon

jmm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah, the Agalloch album has a good chance of hitting #10.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

IMO the Triptykon album will be in the top 5

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

e-wiz (maybe?)

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

bolzer mix up black death doom etc you cant really pigeonhole them and that's why so many like them

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

i've got to go back to the agalloch - i thought marrow of the spirit was astonishing, but the latest disappointed me.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

Looks like everyone forgot about this next album then

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:02 (nine years ago) link

the agalloch is wonderful but its a real proper grower

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:03 (nine years ago) link

xp i really wanted to love the agalloch but i miss the black metal elements of marrow

oh an godflesh - or did that already show?

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:05 (nine years ago) link

Mastodon have watered down everything good about their music and turned it into a boring grey mush. No matter what the album cover might suggest.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:08 (nine years ago) link

Well I sure forgot about Mastadon, like almost a decade ago... lol.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:08 (nine years ago) link

i guess electric wizard too, can't see it not polling

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:09 (nine years ago) link

xpost Crack the Sky is seriously one of the best heavy metal records of all time (if you like prog widdling and unwieldy concepts)

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:11 (nine years ago) link

the mastodon album is a very good catchy album

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:11 (nine years ago) link

i bailed after blood mountain, which i loved.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:12 (nine years ago) link

they have never made anything less than very good
