i think both bands have put together a fantastic run of albums, i can't say which i prefer. Soma is great too, again surprised it placed quite so high.

One more to come tonight. Why do people never try to guess the top 10 before we get to it!

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:58 (nine years ago) link

what am i saying, only one of those bands dress as plants when they perform, so botanist it is

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:58 (nine years ago) link

Hey, Bölzer did well. I thought being an EP might have kept it from getting votes. That was definitely my favourite death metal this year.

jmm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

earth, yob, pallbearer, scottO))), what else..

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

xp cause its never what we think it is.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

oh, agalloch too

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

I can predict YOB being within the 10-7 range.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

Darkspace, Triptykon

jmm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah, the Agalloch album has a good chance of hitting #10.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:00 (nine years ago) link

IMO the Triptykon album will be in the top 5

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

e-wiz (maybe?)

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

bolzer mix up black death doom etc you cant really pigeonhole them and that's why so many like them

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

i've got to go back to the agalloch - i thought marrow of the spirit was astonishing, but the latest disappointed me.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

Looks like everyone forgot about this next album then

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:02 (nine years ago) link

the agalloch is wonderful but its a real proper grower

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:02 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:03 (nine years ago) link

xp i really wanted to love the agalloch but i miss the black metal elements of marrow

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:04 (nine years ago) link

same here

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:05 (nine years ago) link

oh an godflesh - or did that already show?

Adding ease. Adding wonder. Adding (contenderizer), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:05 (nine years ago) link

Mastodon have watered down everything good about their music and turned it into a boring grey mush. No matter what the album cover might suggest.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:08 (nine years ago) link

Well I sure forgot about Mastadon, like almost a decade ago... lol.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:08 (nine years ago) link

i guess electric wizard too, can't see it not polling

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:09 (nine years ago) link

xpost Crack the Sky is seriously one of the best heavy metal records of all time (if you like prog widdling and unwieldy concepts)

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:11 (nine years ago) link

the mastodon album is a very good catchy album

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:11 (nine years ago) link

i bailed after blood mountain, which i loved.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:12 (nine years ago) link

they have never made anything less than very good

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:14 (nine years ago) link

all mastodon is good, the post Skye records are just good for reasons less related to BLASTBEATZ AND TIME SIGNATURE SHIFTZ AND GROWLZ and more to being v listenable clean(ish) heavy rock

franch montana (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

like, make no mistake, OMRTS ain't no leviathan or blood mountain or remission, but it's pretty fuckin all right imo

franch montana (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

i miss the GROWLZ

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

well, they still more or less have those. brann dailor is the only truly clean vocalist and he doesn't handle that many songs.

i have always preferred screams to deathgrowls in the extreme metal i like

franch montana (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:19 (nine years ago) link

i thinking somewhere in that shift from being a metal band to having a shot at being a huge global concern, their sound lost something.

auto focus, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:20 (nine years ago) link

oddly I'm not sure Brann Dailor ever played a blast beat

couldn't get into Hunter at all but liked this enough to vote for it

I think today must have been sund4rs fave run of the poll

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:37 (nine years ago) link

Probably would have voted for the Bolzer if I'd heard it! Sorry guys, it's my fault you're not in ILM's top ten

Dominique, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link

Bolzer's EP last year was in my top 10 and then like a bad Bolzer fan I never got around to listening to the new one. Kinda wish they'd just do a full length.

Fun countdown day, thanks for doing it, looking forward to top 10.

Devilock, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:03 (nine years ago) link

listened to the bolzer after former britpop ;) journalist neil kulkarni hyped it on his blog. was amazing

imago, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:13 (nine years ago) link

shit, also forgot to listen to this bolzer ep!

original bgm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:14 (nine years ago) link

I campaigned for cyntia - limit break by saying it sounds like an awesome power metal version of the virtua tennis soundtrack on the nominations thread, so I guess it's coming up tomorrow then

original bgm, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:17 (nine years ago) link

fuck i must have missed that description

a mere jest!

there's a spotify playlist for all this right

imago, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:27 (nine years ago) link

Bolzer has wolf hooks in their logo and "sun wheels" on their arms. Too much good music without sketchy shit to waste my time with them.

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah there is, cool

my other half is actively interested in metal that is 'intense, fast, melodic, weird, perhaps with classical instrumentation, preferably clean vox, preferably feminist', will need to scour the list for potential

so far jute gyte is her favourite metal i have played

imago, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

so the rest is

Electric Wizard
Agalloch
Scott O)))
Yob
Darkspace
Triptykon
Godflesh
Pallbearer

...and two more. Maybe the other Jute Gyte?

Simon H., Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

maybe mayhem? would be weird if that didn't place
