i think both bands have put together a fantastic run of albums, i can't say which i prefer. Soma is great too, again surprised it placed quite so high.

bolzer mix up black death doom etc you cant really pigeonhole them and that's why so many like them

i've got to go back to the agalloch - i thought marrow of the spirit was astonishing, but the latest disappointed me.

Mastodon have watered down everything good about their music and turned it into a boring grey mush. No matter what the album cover might suggest.

Well I sure forgot about Mastadon, like almost a decade ago... lol.

xpost Crack the Sky is seriously one of the best heavy metal records of all time (if you like prog widdling and unwieldy concepts)

the mastodon album is a very good catchy album

i bailed after blood mountain, which i loved.

they have never made anything less than very good

all mastodon is good, the post Skye records are just good for reasons less related to BLASTBEATZ AND TIME SIGNATURE SHIFTZ AND GROWLZ and more to being v listenable clean(ish) heavy rock

like, make no mistake, OMRTS ain't no leviathan or blood mountain or remission, but it's pretty fuckin all right imo

well, they still more or less have those. brann dailor is the only truly clean vocalist and he doesn't handle that many songs.

i have always preferred screams to deathgrowls in the extreme metal i like

i thinking somewhere in that shift from being a metal band to having a shot at being a huge global concern, their sound lost something.

oddly I'm not sure Brann Dailor ever played a blast beat

couldn't get into Hunter at all but liked this enough to vote for it
