hey um can "tuonetar" turn off the three-song sudzy bubblebath playlist? because like every third song is alcest or saor or suchlike.

really loving the howl's of ebb's too - having a hard job convincing my wife and kids that it's good breakfast listening though

on the strength of last night's demonstration, adding Saor and Alcest to 2014's do not want list, no surprise

howls of ebb - additional apostrophes a well known side effect of xmas man-flu.

man-flu could be a name of a core band

I got Howl of Ebb after I cast my ballot, totally would've voted for it. Great trippy blackened deathness.

HOWLS
there's something about howls of ebb that just invites misspelling, isn't there!

unable to find image suitable to planned "howls of ebsen" joke :/

Did they get way heavier recently? I haven't listened to the new one. Surprised to see them in this poll.

Anyway so yeah, I'm already looking forward to 2015, Melechesh and Lost Soul especially. I would love to be totally surprised by this Marduk album that's coming but I fear they're never gonna recapture whatever they were on during Romans 5:12. But please prove me wrong, Marduk!
Supposedly Leviathan has a new one on the way, too. Despite all the baggage, I'm hoping for something interesting.
― Devilock, Monday, 22 December 2014 20:40 (nine years ago) link
I never heard the last Leviathan - lots of lukewarm to negative reviews of it.

jammin this vader record right now and it's really giving poking around google analytics a sense of grandeur

That Vader record is great and probably the best album they've done in almost 15 years.

that vader record was on my ballot, it is fuckin awesome

DAmn... I wish I would've given that Piss Vortex a better listen...it would've been very high on my list.
― SeanWayne, Tuesday, 23 December 2014 03:27 (nine years ago) link
Yeah, that one's kind of interesting. I just gave it a first listen a couple nights ago. Like a grindy Gorguts.

xps
Yeah, Tibi et Igni is excellent. Lots of fun, not "experimental" or "progressive" to any discernible degree, just kick-ass thrashy death metal delivered w/ utter conviction (and a bit of unintentional humor). Probably not gonna displace De Profundis or Litany or w/e as anyone's very favorite Vader album, but damn near peerless in its niche. Problem w/ having been on a roll for 20-some years is that you never get to have the glorious comeback that makes everyone take notice.

Lol, missed Siegbran's comment. Best since Litany? Maybe so, but I don't know that it's such a massive improvement over, like, Impressions in Blood and Welcome to the Morbid Reich.

Haven't heard (or heard of) Piss Vortex. Not typically a grind fan, but curious...
...and shit yeah, Gorguts loom large, right there in the opening track's guitar tone. Good but mostly affirms my not-grindness. HC vocal bug.

Of the few grind records I've heard this year, I like the Brutal Blues album a lot more. The 'psychedelic' tag is weirdly fitting.

fuck, this brutal blues ep is killer! half the "psychedelic" seems to consist of vocal echo, but i love the manic repetitions, lazer streak guitars, natural-sounding kit, everything. never liked noxagt half this much.

still cannot actually credit YOB getting all these plaudits on the basis of that final track but hey-ho, post-rock is a respected genre
