had to open a window this was so stale

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 10:00 (nine years ago) link

tbf the chorus seems a p real audio illustration of the corkscrewing psychosis of comeback anxiety

havent dressed in weeks, scrunched up paper balls everywhere, ok crj u can do this just simplify it yes simple really really really really really really sim-

on a muted television in the background the new tay video plays again

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 10:10 (nine years ago) link

About to request a moratorium on any and all Taylor mentions.

Greer, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 15:07 (nine years ago) link

lol rtc

yeah this popular-girl fascism needs to end pronto

maura, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link

my first thought shouldn't have been "this sounds like taylor" my bad.

nose, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 17:47 (nine years ago) link

it's pigeonholing and not even the most accurate assessment.

nose, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 17:48 (nine years ago) link

i wouldn't say that something that sounds like it could've been on CRJ's 2012 album should be compared to Taylor's 2014 album, but the "really really really really" thing made me think of "never ever ever" right away tbh.

SAME! it's that quirky, absurdist lyricism that is cute and affable enough inspire memes but not be entirely loathsome. that's all over Kiss, especially present on Call me Maybe (before you came into my life i missed you so bad)

nose, Tuesday, 3 March 2015 18:07 (nine years ago) link

what came to mind for me was "really don't care" by demi but that's more lyrics and lane than melody

Maybe in 100 years someone will say damn Dawn was dope. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Love the song but hate hate hate the product placement in the video (as with earlier CRJ videos)

Sharkie, Saturday, 7 March 2015 10:56 (nine years ago) link

I want to see Tom Hanks in RuPaul's Drag Race now

boxedjoy, Saturday, 7 March 2015 18:56 (nine years ago) link

Super shit video.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 7 March 2015 19:12 (nine years ago) link

Hanks being able to mime AT ALL would've improved it. And maybe bringing CRJ in about 2 minutes earlier.

ineloquentwow (Craigo Boingo), Saturday, 7 March 2015 19:14 (nine years ago) link

i like the video a lot, just wish hanks had actually bothered to learn the lyrics

"So we're paying Hanks $1m per hour? One take it is then."

ineloquentwow (Craigo Boingo), Saturday, 7 March 2015 19:19 (nine years ago) link

friday night video - man, crj's team must hate her

katherine, Saturday, 7 March 2015 22:22 (nine years ago) link

embarrassing video imo

Steph def def (Spottie), Sunday, 8 March 2015 03:16 (nine years ago) link

I'm still not sure about this song. Sort of everything is in place… but it feels like there are too many "really"s in the chorus? It's as if she's trying to convince herself. I mean, the music conveys this feeling of euphoria and full-blown infatuation, but somehow even she isn't buying it? Maybe I've got it all wrong.

The verses are perfect, though. And the vocals are great too!

The video is OK.

daavid, Sunday, 8 March 2015 04:06 (nine years ago) link

Yeah idk about this one - feel like those enormous 80s production clouds deserve a rushier melody in the chorus than that, forget Taylor, it could stand to be more Roxette.

Matt DC, Sunday, 8 March 2015 12:02 (nine years ago) link

diminishing returns on this already, it's giving me the idea of a pop rush but not the actual rush

lex pretend, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:25 (nine years ago) link

Agree with lex

, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:28 (nine years ago) link

agree with daavid that the number of reallys in the chorus kills it

lex pretend, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:33 (nine years ago) link

also what killed it is listening to kiss and realising every non-duet on that is better than this

lex pretend, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:34 (nine years ago) link

three weeks pass...

think carly got me to like a dev hynes track

my body's molecules slowly becoming gemstones

J0rdan S., Sunday, 5 April 2015 03:50 (nine years ago) link

basically

tears @ the roller disco

jordan it's funny you mentioned gemstones because the moment this song made me cry was when it brought to mind a certain steven universe scene

the velvet dope (Andre Gunder Frank 3000), Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:21 (nine years ago) link

on the one hand I am pre-inclined to like this, but I wasn't exactly asking for a remake of solange's "bad girls" cut with britney spears' "sometimes"

katherine, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:28 (nine years ago) link

This sounded so effing good on SNL.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:38 (nine years ago) link

right? she killed the last chorus

the like extra three chord changes in the final chorus otm

Dev gets a rough reception on ilm—sometimes deservedly so and sometimes not—but I feel comfortable saying this is the best song he's written and/or produced.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:43 (nine years ago) link

i completely agree, and i'm a trve dev-hater

His best co-written song is "Want Your Feeling".

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:48 (nine years ago) link

love carjeps, mostly like dev hynes, but... it's a bit anemic, no? and every time I've listened to it since I stop halfway because I really just want to listen to Bad Girls instead

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWlzaRS-nRo

katherine, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:49 (nine years ago) link

lol yeah i can't stand "bad girls" or any of his work with solange

every time I've listened to it since I stop halfway

Wrong move. The end is the best part!!

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:52 (nine years ago) link

I don't love Dev, but don't get why Brad and others hate his stuff os much either

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:52 (nine years ago) link

i hear "bad girls" in this a lot but it's like "bad girls" with an actual chorus and a great bridge?

^ otm "Bad GIrls" is a decent sketch and "All That" is a polished and refined end result.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:54 (nine years ago) link

Just bought this mp3 at Amazon btw, so if you need me I'll be sprawled across my bed listening to it on a loop for the next 24.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:55 (nine years ago) link

90% of the time dev's production and songwriting involves really gauzy extended synth chords and really rushed drum programming that completely fail to interact with each other, and his worst songs tend to feel completely directionless

completely completely completely

it's 2 am

it's like we're listening to entirely different songs at this point

katherine, Sunday, 5 April 2015 05:57 (nine years ago) link

Losing You is great, imo, but Bad Girls and Everything Is Embarrassing are flat and ponderous. I'll have to remind myself what else he's behind that's not his own solo work, but I know there were more than a few songs on Cupid Deluxe that I thought were great and some I didn't like AT ALL. Dude's a puzzle.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 April 2015 06:03 (nine years ago) link

what I meant was that I listened to it once all the way through, was underwhelmed, went back to listen to the solange and britney songs to make sure they was what I was really hearing and not "snow on the sahara" or "truly madly deeply", ended up getting stuck relistening at least once and in solange's case like five times to each of them, tried to listen to carly again, several times, gave up each time.
