'the cello's nice though'
for some reason the repetition + these lyrics come off as so insincere and postured, it's like he wanted to write this grand emotional street epic, man, and forced it out any way he could. so lazy
next up, sigur ros

Sigur ros track is cool. The bass has a ton of bite.

I used to like it more when I was at university. The big corny ten-minuter I prefer(red) is the airstrikes one, but their placement here comes off as an April Fool more than anything

most of the rest seems good-to-certifiably-awesome, personally a great fan of the faust and the neeeeewsuuuuunnnnn

Sincerity is for rockists.
Good to see Night of the Assassins. I didn't vote in this so it could make it to #100, glad the plan worked.
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 08:20 (nine years ago) link
My sincerest apologies for not voting, as my projected top five for Night of the Assassins would have done it possibly better justice. "Dull lo-fi guitar jam" my foot, that shit's incendiary beyond a plane we barely know. Glad to see Hornets place, at least. If anyone knows of music of that calibre produced currently, please let me know.

They used to play French Kiss on the radio and cut out before the orgasmic breakdown and even then it was unbelievably exciting to 13 year old me. Seemed to open up a whole new world and still works a dance floor like little else.

two of my choices bookending the bottom twenty. still have high hopes for the pärson sound number making a showing though.

tbf, "insincere and postured" is the vibe that Lou inhabits most of the time. funny thing is it rarely results in bad music.

Only one vote placing so far (Orbital) but a few others I would probably have voted for if I'd noticed them on the massively long nominations list.

haha great to the see the klf in there, never been a big fan of IGUN compared to the white room stuffkinda bummed to miss out on voting but been some great stuff i probs would have picked place so far, great job everyone :)faust, boredoms & dénudés personally favs in this first group

yeah kind of amazed night of the assassins was that low, but I guess I didn't quite vote for it myself. makes for a lovely pacesetter tho
looking forward to getting home later and listening to this lot. set a course for planet herbie

Shocked that "Frankie Teardrop" has already shown up. I figured it was a shoo-in for the top ten (although I don't think it's in my own top ten).

Scott and Mingus off mine have placed.
― why dont u say something or like just die (dog latin), Wednesday, 1 April 2015 11:47 (nine years ago) link
Only Zercon and Boredoms have placed from my list so far. Going to try to make time to listen to the rest of them tonight, apart from Frankie Teradrop which I already know and, er, strongly dislike.
― ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 12:56 (nine years ago) link
Faust, Suicide and Lou Reed have placed from mine.

I'm delighted to see Rutti make it. It's my first vote to place. Such a beautiful song.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 13:22 (nine years ago) link
Well, there's the JAMS and Faust, two more of mine choices..
That's four so far. I doubted there'd be five, well there's one I'm certain will be there, and maybe three more?
I was probably a bit previous, seeing as how there's 100.
OK, new guess: 15.

Voted for My Gen and (Circle) -- Krautrock was a late cut, possibly the last one I cut before sending.
― WilliamC, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 13:55 (nine years ago) link
I was thinking "Did I miss out Frankie?" but I had another look at my actual ballot, and I'm still fine with what I sent.

Damn Water No Get Enemy way too low.

lotta vote-splitting with the Fela songs, is my guess (I voted for a different one)
― sleeve, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 14:39 (nine years ago) link
I voted for 4 or 5 Fela songs, it was too hard to choose just one.
― thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 1 April 2015 14:42 (nine years ago) link
I voted for a different Fela tune too, but I'm a-ok with anything by him placing (except for the horribly sexist "Lady").
I gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed that most of the tracks so far have barely passed the 10 minute mark. Where are all the real, 20+ minute epics? I'm glad "Hornets" made it though, it's pretty much my favourite jazz tune of all time... Such a nasty, relentless groove!
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 15:21 (nine years ago) link

Next 10 hints:Germans, Frenchies, but mostly gringoes, plus the first appearance of Coltrane.
― A-Hanisi Coates (Leee), Wednesday, 1 April 2015 16:41 (nine years ago) link
We'll also have our first track that's at least 20 minutes.

That Faust track sounds so much more au courant than almost any Stereolab track, too, I must make up lost time with it.
lil louis is one of those 'jams' ilx seems so fond of, eh
― rock (Jack White, Coldplay) (imago), Wednesday, 1 April 2015 17:29 (nine years ago) link
i'm going to get so down with the 'trane
speaking seriously for a moment, Faust are really worth spending a deal of quality time with for any music fan

I opted to vote for the War song that I'm sure absolutely no one else voted for.
Here's a second hardcore promotion of Faust for the uninitiated. I still have never heard any of the post-'70s stuff, but I absolutely love everything up through that point.
