Trying to catch up listening-wise this afternoon, Mingus so far is the only thing that doesn't have me writhing with impatience (apart from my own picks) which is weird since I'm not big on jazz usually

Love Dark and Long but it wasn't one of the three Underworld songs I voted for.

So pissed I couldn't get a ballot in time.

As much as I love different various versions of NY's Down By The River I wish I could have voted for the Low / Dirty Three version which is incredibly beautiful but doesn't qualify because it's about, oh, twenty seconds too short. It's a different beast altogether - check it out.

Dexys was my number one. One of my five favourite songs ever. I'll never understand how they pulled that song off. Saw them do it live in 2003, it was an incredible moment.

I'm not sure the Dexys version on Spotify has the charm of the album version I voted for. Don't know why. I love the one on the album.

will listen to mother sky when it comes up here! not heard it yet tho. you're right that dynamism and the merest hint of if not songwriting then deepening narrative and tension is what i sometimes find frustratingly absent in can given their manifestly great qualities

you want songwriting go listen to alice's restaurant or some shit

voted for Isaac. one of the first songs that'll come to mind when i think of the word "epic".

the one Fela song i voted for is yet to show up. maybe it won't.

Future Days is my favourite Can album by some margin, and Bel Air maybe my favourite song. instead of drawing you straight in like a lot of Can material, it paints the scenery for you first so you get a good look at it. after a while you just kinda wash into it.

maybe i've *sigh* kinda had it with Yes. somewhere deep within me i still think Heart of the Sunrise is spectacular though.
