I was already sold, Major Arcana was one of my favorite records of the past few years, but this is even better, I'm over the moon.

This is a superior quality piece of 90s Matador nostalgia but I'm not sure I'd care if it wasn't for the singer, she tips it away from just being a slavish recreation of a sound. Still, this is the best time of year to listen to this sort of thing, and I'm enjoying it.

Mister Difficult is staggering

This album is stellar, and indeed My Dead Girl is an amazing song. Puffer has some serious Luscious Jackson vibes.

I missed the stream apparently now I'm desperately trying to listen to that first song to get the Chavez vibes described upthread...

In Pitchfork interview, as in NY Times one, she talks about listening to rap, r'n'b, and Pavement.

i was rinsing 'taylor swift' b/w 'swim fan' before the new release. the words to 'raising the skate' are amazing.

anyway imo this is a very special band that is very difficult to write about well
wonder why anyone would listen to whiney anyway

Dupuis explained (kind of...) a bunch of her songs on genius.com and it's quite interesting, the story behind My Dead Girl adds a whole other layer for me.

o they are lovely live! started off playing the songs maybe 20% slower than on the record but then the weed wore off
they have such chops; they make a muscular racket with such clarity. awesome band
and they man their own merch stand! my gf and I gave Dupuis a note at the end recommending Cardiacs as she's such a Blur fan - hopefully she will give them a try!

man i can't stand this band anymore. the whole hotline thing was so embarrassing, what a cynical push for a floundering album cycle. sadie's got a solo album coming out in november, the lead single is about consent, christ...

tt has alerted me to Sadie's new album (as Sad13) Slugger - it's great! she's gone predictably in a more electronic direction ('she's been at the Ableton') but the songwriting is really strong, maybe just as strong as on Foil Deer. do give it a listen, even as this year continues to provide album upon album of true wonder

the album by hellrazor (fronted by mike falcone, the drummer) is really great in a "meant to soundtrack skate-wipeout videos" way

New Speedy Ortiz single! https://www.npr.org/2018/02/21/586560145/songs-we-love-speedy-ortiz-lucky-88 Album out April 27. Sounds like they've toned things down a bit for this one, but I'm still excited.
