(my bad)

rip van wanko, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:28 (nine years ago) link

Actually Shadows came up late in the polls. I'm very glad it's there.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:29 (nine years ago) link

I've long since abandoned my hopes of The Asparagus Song placing

JoeStork, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:32 (nine years ago) link

Barnaby not placing is a surprise. I voted Drug Test off President YLT.

campreverb, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:33 (nine years ago) link

Barnaby is #33.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:34 (nine years ago) link

I meant Spec Bebop.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:41 (nine years ago) link

Kinda surprised "Shaker" is nowhere to be seen. Seemed fairly prominent at the time. Or at least a "heard it in a Hal Hartley film" level of prominent.

XP: Ooooh

Maximum big surprise! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Friday, 5 June 2015 02:41 (nine years ago) link

Thanks for doing this, VHS! Great rollout! And great images/idea, clemenza!

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 5 June 2015 02:44 (nine years ago) link

Also, Tom Courtenay got 2 votes for the acoustic version, if people wondered about its dominance.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:46 (nine years ago) link

I'll bring in more stats tomorrow.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:46 (nine years ago) link

"Tom Courtenay" was a complete surprise to me. I wasn't even remotely aware that was a key YLT song.

clemenza, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:47 (nine years ago) link

Another huge thanks to Clem and Bee OK.

And of course thank you to anyone who participated! Sorry for the endless typos. Dyslexia at work. I'm still pretty damn proud.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:47 (nine years ago) link

I wish the text on the images had been sharper...I don't why they weren't. Anyway, I figure this was the least contentious countdown ever. Can you imagine two Yo La Tengo fans getting into a heated argument?

clemenza, Friday, 5 June 2015 02:50 (nine years ago) link

VHS thanks for running this-and Clemenza these images were so great. Thanks again.

Y'all I think Fade is a good album, truthfully above the overly long I'm Not Afraid Of You...

Not surprised at the top 5, but a little dismayed at the high placings of Summer Sun and ATNTIIO tracks. I think what I love about YLT doesn't match up with the aspects they valued/tried to focus on the most in their own work.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 5 June 2015 02:55 (nine years ago) link

great poll!

how was it??!

Van Horn Street, Friday, 5 June 2015 17:03 (nine years ago) link

what I have learned here is that I like YLT's covers and instrumentals much more than most people seem to

sleeve, Friday, 5 June 2015 17:07 (nine years ago) link

(xpost) It was something to see--very contemplative, very much like what I imagine a '60s Warhol-type mixed-media happening to be. Some or all of the films are online:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Jean+Painlev%C3%A9

After the show, everyone autographed a vinyl copy of And Then Nothing... I'd bought that day.

I didnt vote bcz the only album I'm super-familiar with is Electr-o-pura (even though Blue Line Swinger is still my favorite song of all time) but here have this: European stoner metal band doing a YLT tribute on the last thing they released before breaking up. Obv the drummer is stiff compared to Georgia (what drummer isn't?) and the guitarist can't wig out like Ira (only a few can) but I was still struck at how well they nailed it against the odds:
