fwiw I saw him at Mutek last week, it was a pretty decent set, not great but not the worst

they definitely wouldn't have gotten near him had he said this shit a week earlier

a couple people I recognized from the festival had commented on his facebook page prior to all this happening thanking him for playing, several of whom are gay

obviously mr. walls here is clueless

given this dude has been touring the clubs of Europe nonstop for the last few years you would think he would have at the absolute least picked up enough social awareness to moderate his internal thoughts

one of my fav tracks of the year, a bone shaking bass rattler with a submerged dense production similar to throwing snow

the fast trigger percussion, sublimely combined with the ethereal slow-downed vocals and synths - so atmospheric

As someone much more familiar with the minimal house world than I, would you say there really is that much undiscovered stuff that he can buy like 20 records a week of undiscovered gems. I feel like that article is taking a certain amount of exaggeratory license...

Anyhow, +1 to upthread posting of Delroy Edward's "Can U Get With" EP, especially "Always (edit)"

ed.b, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 15:50 (nine years ago) link

Discogs just reached 6 million submissions. That's a lot of virtual digging!

On the one hand i doubt it, on the other hand the number of records i find where its the only release the label ever did that, or sometimes the opposite, some label with hundred of releases of garbage you'd never think about wading through and look there it is, a little cabin tucked away behind a rock

saer, Friday, 19 June 2015 19:23 (eight years ago) link

It depends on perception but I listen to a lot of mixed when working and also when helping dredge the canal to keep the flow of water even and there are a lot of great records ive no clue what they are or when they are from

Bicep - Just
https://soundcloud.com/platform/bicep-just-boiler-room-debuts

Production-wise, the palette is strikingly non-specific, shades of tech-house in the rolling beat, a synth that sounds tactile without ever feeling retrofitted or nostalgic, and that swirling, sinister bass that never drops as much as it just broods before disappearing. In the most basic sense, this is a track that sucks the air out of the place, replacing whatever atmosphere was previously there with one of its own. Fascinating, mesmeric, and effortlessly cool.

i guess the fatima track is okay too ... there's not that much stuff on the list that's actively bad ("gosh" comes to mind) just a lot of stuff that's fairly unremarkable to my ears

the late great, Saturday, 20 June 2015 03:16 (eight years ago) link

oh wait, even "gosh" is not that bad, i confused it for a second with the other big track off that album, uh, "loud places"?

just lots and lots of MEH on that list

what do you make of the list?

what tracks deserve to be listened to that haven't been mentioned on this thread so far, what needs to be added to the thread spotify playlist?

how many of these tracks have been mentioned previously on this thread?

djmartian, Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:06 (eight years ago) link

I looked at the list and it looks very similar to a blueprint I saw last year of a new housing development, each record like the arrival of another mcmansion crushing all wildlife before it, soon we will have nothing left. It looks like the blue steam engine also knows the pain of these sounds proliferating where once was serenity and geniality

saer, Wednesday, 24 June 2015 01:41 (eight years ago) link

They came with their lists and their sounds and their capitalism, destroying not just a vibey sunday afternoon but hope itself

brilliant 7 minute techno track by Terriers, riyl Levon Vincent / Laurent Garnier

Terriers - Believing The Crystal
https://soundcloud.com/truants/terriers-believing-the-crystal

Dublin duo, Terriers

Appearing on Octagon, the debut release of new Dutch label Rhythm Nation, it's both solid and nebulous, chunky grooves and washes of extra-terrestrial synth coming together beautifully. A direct yet emotive synth lune clambers to life while disparate elements shake and dance amidst the fog, offering just another taste of their undoubted gifts.

djmartian, Friday, 26 June 2015 13:16 (eight years ago) link

i like that Wick Blaze track, thanks.

What do we think about Berceuse Heroique?

I think they're overhyped but they've put out some good stuff, like LIES or White Material,

paolo, Saturday, 27 June 2015 14:06 (eight years ago) link

the only thing on bercuese heroique i got excited about was edits pt. 2

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Saturday, 27 June 2015 17:50 (eight years ago) link

Never heard of it (or white material)

saer, Saturday, 27 June 2015 18:10 (eight years ago) link

me neither. i'm not super sold on white material but the galcher lustwerk release (tape 22) was bonkers

the late great, Sunday, 28 June 2015 18:04 (eight years ago) link

I've definitely heard of it and remember checking some releases out last year, but nothing grabbed me.

White Material is pretty solid, but the very definition of over-hyped. Kinda unfortunate name as well.

menacing moody dubby post-industrial / minimal synth / dark techno, on the blackest ever black label, i luv the smudgy synths combined with pummeling techno beats.

This is a quick, quarterly reminder that all available tracks mentioned on this thread (and a handful of album selections from each listed) are being posted as updated to the thread-specific Spotify playlist. I just did a second, top-to-bottom sweep prior to posting this message and have updated as of today with everything that's been added on Spotify since it was first mentioned.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this thread is more-or-less the least in sync with Spotify's catalogue but, even so, I've pulled 70 tracks and 7+ hours of music at the halfway point of 2015.
