So much going on in that song, starts out as funk rock!

the fact that seven ILXors put this as their #1 makes me think it's the real winner here

haha wow only on ILX would that come in at number 2 (I'm not arguing, I had it p high up)

^^ this. Just keeps building and building. And Stu Cook is the song's secret weapon, adding sneering little figures just as it starts to take off.

Also love the little collection of one-off riffs before it goes back into the verse proper.

Hmmmmm, the people that like "Ramble Tamble" REALLY like it, the rest are meh, I'll shove it in 23 or thereabouts. That was my Top 3, in different order.

One of my pet projects that will never happen is to form a band called Keep On Chooglin', that just plays a lengthy version of Keep On Chooglin' at every show. Album releases? The same. Over and over. Keep On Chooglin', forever.

― The Manner of Crawly (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 June 2015 11:11 (nine years ago) link
so i was THE only person that didn't vote for "Fortunate Son." nothing against it, i just knew it would do fine and figured if anything else on my ballot had a fighting chance of beating it to #1, i'd help increase those odds (didn't vote for "Proud Mary" with the same reasoning, although obviously it had no chance of #1 in the end).
― some dude, Thursday, 18 June 2015 11:43 (nine years ago) link
There's literally no pop song I have more admiration for than "Fortunate Son." I mean above and beyond just how great it sounds. It's such an incredibly smart, merciless analysis of Vietnam specifically, but one that extends in any number of directions from there.

question since the youtube list is making me want to listen to things over and over and i can't sit here at the computer forever -- if i have to purchase one item that has * the most good songs * the long version of grapevine* ramble tamble
which CCR product should i purchase? help please i don't want to figure this out if there is an easy answer!!

for example: no i need long grapevine in portable format so i can take it to cosmo's factory!

The CD version of Chronicle Vol. 1 has the full version of "Grapevine" but doesn't have "Ramble Tamble," which is on Vol. 2. Honestly getting both Vol. 1 & 2 is never a waste of anyone's money.
― example (crüt), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:36 (nine years ago) link
that's all I owned for years and felt reasonably satisfied. You basically own 85 percent of their catalog w/those two comps (no "Effigy" though).
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:43 (nine years ago) link
CCR are like Al Green: a singles band that recorded great albums w/deep cuts yet you won't feel unsatisfied w/owning the GH.
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 18 June 2015 16:44 (nine years ago) link
that makes sense, good to knowi think the greatest hits would lead me to cosmo's factory eventually so i guess maybe i'll just start there since i def already know the hits (although the long version of grapevine was new to me!)

there's a funny bit in "Up Around the Bend" where Fogerty describes listening to their version of Grapevine on the radio and thinking to himself "wtf not ANOTHER chorus!?"
