\m/ evol-love \m/ (Ioannis), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Ioannis how do you feel about being forced to subscribe to last fm if you want to listen to radio?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 20:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno. i haven't really been paying attention to last.fm lately. still, i seriously doubt i'll be subscribing again. time will tell.

\m/ evol-love \m/ (Ioannis), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 21:02 (fifteen years ago) link

I wonder how many users they will lose because of it? I suppose those who only scrobble wont care but the radio users will surely go elsewhere.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 21:19 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, i've been primarily using it just to scrobble albums of late, so this hasn't affected my listening habits at all just yet.

\m/ evol-love \m/ (Ioannis), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:12 (fifteen years ago) link

anyone here actually listen to last.fm radio then?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 11:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeh, I do sometimes -- especially via the iPhone app. If I was looking at having to pay for it, though, I doubt I'd bother.

I've no idea if I'm representative or not. Put it this way, though: I don't think they're going to make much cash from this plan.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 11:52 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah not too bothered by it, don't really listen to last.fm radio.

Roz, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 12:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyone ran the http://mainstream.vincentahrend.com/ recently?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:33 (fifteen years ago) link

18.58 % mainstream

The Cure at 60% mainstream and Rolling Stones at 64% are my two most mainstream artists by a long way. Are the Cure really considered (almost) as mainstream at the Stones?

the innermost wee guy (onimo), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

on last fm plays, yes

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago) link

31.47 % mainstream, which seems about right and which I'm totally happy with.

Euler, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

4.17 % mainstream
Miles Davis 27.15 % is my highest. John Coltrane just dropped out of the top 30 it seems.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

My previous figure was for the last 12 months, overall is 14.98 % mainstream.

the innermost wee guy (onimo), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 15:55 (fifteen years ago) link

19.64 % mainstream

Which is good until you notice how stupid how they rank how mainstream an act is. AnCo and Pavement more mainstream than T.I? Liz Phair less mainstream than the Mountain Goats? I mean, what? (Actually now I think about it, I do own like 3 mountain goats albums for every 1 liz phair album, maybe J0hnny D is making a mint off of just having so many bloody releases to collect.)

who has the highest?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

didn't last.fm have a functionality where you could give them multiple artists and it would give you a list of recommendations based on those?

lil waynes babymama (musically), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

it used to have lots of things years ago they no longer have. Like seeing a list of your top 500 albums played. Would love to see that now.

Considering I've listened to my top album more than my 2nd, 3rd and 4th combined, maybe I should give it a rest and expand the old palette.
