dirty sprite 2

lag∞n, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

available for preorder on itunes brand music store

lag∞n, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:18 (eight years ago) link

Yikes; terrible name. And that's a full, physical release album? Is there even a single? Seems like this is being set up to tank

Evan R, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:19 (eight years ago) link

yeah who knows what an album is even these days def kinda weird to claim a part 2 of a mixtape is an album

lag∞n, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:52 (eight years ago) link

on the other hand u cld take the best songs from 56 NIGHTS v BEAST MODE v MONSTER maybe master them up a lil and have a great album

lag∞n, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:52 (eight years ago) link

I still gotta catch up on everything after Monster. I heard good buzz about some of them, esp 56 Nights, but after Monster I needed a break

Funny how Honest only came out last year but it already feels like a career ago

Evan R, Monday, 13 July 2015 20:57 (eight years ago) link

there's a lot of buzz on twitter but who knows how that translates

Hardly, this is the first time an album's release has lined up w/ peak buzz in what feels like years....

supreme problematics (D-40), Monday, 13 July 2015 23:16 (eight years ago) link

I guess I haven't been paying attention, but I'm not really seeing the buzz. At least in terms of radio play, he seems miles away from peak buzz

Evan R, Monday, 13 July 2015 23:31 (eight years ago) link

yeah this album is gonna do big numbers. the 2 biggest radio songs from his recent mixtapes ("Commas" and "Real Sisters") are on it and his fanbase is way more fervent than the "oh, he's really good at hooks" kind of casual embrace he had before.

some dude, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 02:22 (eight years ago) link

Man I feel out of it. But good for him. I like that in 2015 going the J. Cole route (not a diss) could work for a guy like Future.

Evan R, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 02:39 (eight years ago) link

going the J. Cole route (not a diss)

what does this mean? (not being argumentative, just curious)

gr8080, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 12:40 (eight years ago) link

I think he means "announce an album people didn't know about a week or two ahead of release."

some dude, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 12:51 (eight years ago) link

Sorry; could have been more clear. I also meant "make an appeal to an engaged fanbase rather than bank on singles that these days don't cleanly translate to album sales anyway"

Evan R, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:11 (eight years ago) link

"Commas" is a big hit dude

supreme problematics (D-40), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 14:30 (eight years ago) link

fuck up some commas yeah

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:34 (eight years ago) link

haha, I am out of it—my bad. I guess I do hear "Commas" on radio/mixtapes/whatever, but I just kind of dismiss it b/c it doesn't sound like a hit to me. I enjoy some of Future's phrasing, but the beat is blah

Evan R, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:08 (eight years ago) link

nooooo cmon

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:08 (eight years ago) link

i wrote a poem

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:09 (eight years ago) link

listening to future
dissolving totally
arising as a being of pure dark emotion
batman?

this is the totally mood of commas and also trap n*ggas

'march madness' is probably the poppiest of the songs on the three mixtapes (the holy trinity as it were)

, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:11 (eight years ago) link

'real sisters' too xp to myself

, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:12 (eight years ago) link

all these tapes are full of oddly engaging songs that take time to reveal themselves

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:13 (eight years ago) link

^otm ... you can find me upthread one month ago today expressing disappointment in 56 Nights ... now i can't stop listening to it

still think trap n***as is the cream of the crop, tho

guess i should check out Monster/Beastmode

alpine static, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:17 (eight years ago) link

they are both very good tho 56 nights is prob the purest distillation of the form

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:19 (eight years ago) link

curious if hell go more pop/dynamic on the album or what

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:19 (eight years ago) link

Honest is such a weird blip on the radar for him now. Imo if he'd just done some hardcore editing/resequencing before putting it out it'd hold up a lot better and his hot streak would seem even more *fire emoji*

to me march madness is more a perfect album track ... the 'hook' as it were is in the melodic intricacies of the beat meshing w/ his meaningfulcore lyrics/emoting...."Commas" feels like the biggest Single-single but it's also not a perfect iteration of what he sounds like now IMO...its success set the table for further artistic explorations but I don't think he's yet released the HIT that epitomizes his current sound

johnny crunch, Friday, 17 July 2015 03:31 (eight years ago) link

lol did it really? wow

listened to some of the itunes previews last night, def seems to be in keeping with the sound of the last three tapes. bout to rip into it now

velcoro pharmacy & provisions (slothroprhymes), Friday, 17 July 2015 14:54 (eight years ago) link

it's really good

, Friday, 17 July 2015 15:45 (eight years ago) link

the interview/bonus track commentary on the deluxe edition that's on spotify is...interesting? to say the least?

but yea this as thematically and sonically consistent as 56 nights or beastmode, love the production

velcoro pharmacy & provisions (slothroprhymes), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:17 (eight years ago) link

they tried to make me go pop and unleashed a monster

lag∞n, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:53 (eight years ago) link

p cool theres only one feature on this, not that cool its drake

lag∞n, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:55 (eight years ago) link

This all sounds really mixtape-caliber to me

Evan R, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:47 (eight years ago) link

Wtf does that even mean

Roland Pemberton, Monday, 20 July 2015 20:13 (eight years ago) link

Oh and re. Future, DS2 is cool but I think 56 Nights crazy

Roland Pemberton, Monday, 20 July 2015 20:15 (eight years ago) link

Wtf does that even mean

I meant it's not up to the caliber of his other albums. In both quality and sound, it feels like a mixtape to me.

Evan R, Monday, 20 July 2015 21:29 (eight years ago) link

It's got a sustained vibe, and I appreciate that. Honest was a lot more scattershot, and maybe even jumbled, but song for song it was so much better than this one

Evan R, Monday, 20 July 2015 21:30 (eight years ago) link

i kinda prefer the cold, grimly focused asshole future to the warbling romantic future. when was it obvious he'd switched? i lost interest in him for a while.

Strong disagree. Although I don't think this one is as good as 56 Nights

supreme problematics (D-40), Monday, 20 July 2015 21:45 (eight years ago) link

I want to agree with this, but I'll take maudlin romantic Future over the asshole shaming his ex on "Rotation" any day

Evan R, Monday, 20 July 2015 21:52 (eight years ago) link

i think the beats on this are better. cold and mechanical, they fit.

lex pretend, Monday, 20 July 2015 21:52 (eight years ago) link

xp you'll take the lies over the honest post-break-up bitterness then
