the late great, Saturday, 21 November 2015 06:01 (eight years ago) link

I think we need to have 'EDM with a grittier, subtler sound' in next year's bobbins thread title

paolo, Saturday, 21 November 2015 12:49 (eight years ago) link

I was thinking 'Techno / House Bobbins 2016'

saer, Saturday, 21 November 2015 12:54 (eight years ago) link

i prefer ampersands to that diagonal line though, how about 'Techno & House Bobbins 2016'

saer, Saturday, 21 November 2015 12:56 (eight years ago) link

You fuckin hipster

lipelis is TMO is beard in dust, a lot of good stuff from him lately

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 24 November 2015 10:40 (eight years ago) link

it's not been a very bobbins-y year for me, so I'm just catching up with the spotify playlist.some great stuff here, so thanks to those putting it together.
I noticed there is a lot of stuff here that sounds very retro in its way - lots of stuff that reminds me of Artificial Intelligence-era Warp techno and house... I know there've been classic house revivals for ages, but this feels very much more like a proper thing in this context... is this a 'thing' now?

notice, a defining track of 2015 has arrived:

Hugo Massien - All Night - on the XL label,

video audio:
http://xlrecordings.com/watch/80

spotify:
https://open.spotify.com/track/2rkL0UCEN3DBe8DeYYyPwW

MONSTER bone shaker / rave BASS BANGER of a track - a deep-tech-house smasher with moody deep introspective vocals

WARNING, contains f-ing explicit language

context:

Hugo Massien signs to XL with Kontrol EP
http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=31979

Massien is the latest dance music producer to join the UK indie label, following Paul Woolford last month. XL say it's part of an ongoing effort to "reconnect with the spirit of the label's early days... built around a series of underground, club-focused, outsider rave 12-inches." They say Massien "harnesses that spirit" with the four-track Kontrol, which is roughly in line with the UK's bass-heavy deep tech scene

Future Times had their new comp up as a name-your-price joint when they launched their Bandcamp a week or two ago. I don't think it is NYP anymore. But dang it's good. Excellent jams from Huerco S, Max Dunbar, Protect-U, Jack J, etc.

Tempted to buy one a them two-pineapple shirts too.

The new Yappin sounds great

As we move into December, I'd like to drop a quick note to encourage any readers / lurkers / ilxors to post their favorite as-yet-unmentioned bobbins from this year to the thread so that I can hoover them into the ongoing spotify playlist. Last chance for any accessible stragglers that may not already be in the lexicon.
