oh my god this album is fucking awesome
― the tune was space, Sunday, 6 December 2015 18:53 (eight years ago) link
easily one of the best albums i've heard this year
if you took out "give no fuks"/"feel like phil"/"royalty" and cut the tracklist down to 12 songs i would consider this a nearly perfect record. every other song ranges from good to incredible.

really great
― mingalaba, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 05:25 (eight years ago) link
im ok w/ GNF & FLP but "Royalty" has gotta go

thinking this is ultimately p good (unexpectedly so from my pov) with fitful lucid periods of inspiration. would have liked to go higher cos u can see almost touch a special album, or what a special album would be like, thru the party smoke but even with rejigging i think it might still just come up a couple songs short. a wonderful extendo ep for sure however
probably that's the cup half empty view idk. give it a few weeks
obv agree that the rap karaoke bloc (lol is thugger too pricey now or was jer like fuckit yo i got this) carries the blame with big sean saboteur in chief, constant low key struggle to fully recover its thread after that
'remember' is my guy tho d-_-b

vintage twista verse on this

ya. that one had me wishing 8ball & mjg were still in the popular rolodex
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 09:39 (eight years ago) link
this does 'sexy' kind of effortlessly IMO...morseo than the ty album
btw in tyworld i think the wiz & ty EP is low key his classic this year? curious abt RTC's opinion on that (I know it sounds un-promising)

maybe i'm just a sexy dinosaur but this seems an interesting if not eccentric criteria for this that hadnt overly occurred to me. i guess it would successfully come under modern 'x n chill' standards but
can't see how ty even comes into the equation beyond a general stripclub leer

last three songs might be the album's best stretch though. "paradise" omg
i had forgotten j cole's verse on "planez" ;_;

What does everybody think of the Rihanna soundalike on "I Did"?
― Evan R, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 15:27 (eight years ago) link
j cole's vers on planez is a contender for worst rap verse on a r&b song ever.

not an official one but someone made an edit w/o cole's verse lol

it would be easily one of my singles of the year without that garbage

I want to love this but I keep imagining Kehlani singing these tunes. All those guest appearances on shitty records destroyed my good will.

the original beach house was totally sexual tho ... songs like "DTF" and "Forbidden Fruit" explicitly so
This album I don't hear Bryson Tiller so much...he sounds like Drake. This is spare in a way that's more Sam Cooke 'night beat'

xxp Not suprising considering the lack of promotion and the three year delay. I wonder if it was ready to drop when Don't Tell 'Em was on the radio every five seconds.

i feel like the opening third of this album touches greatness but doesn't always get there or maintain it, but the final third (excluding "don't tell em") really fulfils that promise
― cher guevara (lex pretend), Monday, 14 December 2015 19:07 (eight years ago) link

Most of his full length projects have underwhelmed me at first—they seemed either uneven or somehow incomplete—but they've all had a lot of staying power so I suspect this will too
