Are there any Cowsills left?

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 10:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Wikipedia says there are three.

J@cob, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 10:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I guess a lot of Cambodian groups would qualify :-(

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 10:41 (fifteen years ago) link

But it really takes three to be a band.

Also the Spinanes and Local H, so long as we're naming names.

I Dream of Wires.

Yes, Mayhem still has living original members. I believe one of them is in Burzum.

Varg Vikernes was never an original member of Mayhem, was he? Mind you, Mayhem was started as a very local underground band and Mr. Vikernes lived more than 500 kilometres away at that point.
But I am pretty sure the rest of the guys Oystein Aarseth started Mayhem together with are still alive.

And, OK, I have seen White Stripes defined as a band, but in my book, they are a duo. Just another kind of duo than the vocal duos/synth duos you would usually think of with that kind of lineup.

you normally think of bands with nothing but drumkit and guitar as being a vocal/synth duo?

I dream of wires are very much alive.

It's sad that the closest we get to this is The Ramones, as they were more the seventies. Sad for the Ramones, that is.

I may be cranking the fame-ometer down a little far here, but two thirds of the Ran-Dells have died and I can't find much about the third. Kind of :/ now as I see the main guy who made the synthesised noises only died last year, and he has a bio up saying how he didn't think his hit was much to be proud of until people started emailing him about it 35+ years later. I could've dropped him a note...

I'm not in the US but I wish I could've not heard 6000 bad covers of "Sweet Home Alabama" by similarly non-USian aging rockers in my tiny English smalltown. They like to play "Country Roads (Take Me Home)" too. Guys! You are not from the southern USA! Cut it out!

(My daydream is of assembling enough musical talent to go to the local open-mic night, rant about this for five minutes, and then bust into "Alternative Ulster")

Jeez, I should learn to read better, for a moment I thought Pancakes' post meant all/both of the Spinanes were dead (for similar skim-readers: no, just that there are only 2 of them, and they were a band).

Neither was John Denver, but that didn't stop him.
