I am sick that a festival like that would never exist in the UK.
Really enjoying the Brightr album. It is so wide-eyed and summery. No weak tracks either - all completely infectiously upbeat.

I know nothing about Creeper at all, but I quite like this EP. Pitches somewhere between MCR and The Academy Is...

The new Modern Baseball is shaping up to be lovely too.

Trapped between this thread and the metal one, but the new Fall of Try album (which they've offered as a free download) rips. And the long break has made their vocalist 25% less grating.

the Basement record referenced at top of thread pretty much rules, afaic

I mean, they are the Yuck of 2016, but that is OK w/ me.
― alpine static, Monday, 2 May 2016 00:34 (eight years ago) link
A friend of mine loves that record and pitched it to me sounding a lot like early Jimmy Eat World, but I don't hear it. Unless "early-Jimmy Eat World" is just code for 90s emo, and even as early as Static Prevails, Jimmy already sounded more ornate than most of those bands.
― rhymes with "blondie blast" (cryptosicko), Monday, 2 May 2016 00:44 (eight years ago) link
I should probably listen to Jimmy Eat World at some point. I only know The Middle and Lucky Denver Mint.

clarity, bleed american, and futures are basically ur-texts for almost anything that appears in this thread

also, simon: this fall of troy record is SICK
yeah there are a couple songs I don't care for but guitar wankery is rarely this FUN

i finally got around to the brightr album and i really like it!
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 3 May 2016 22:42 (eight years ago) link
Yeah, the Brightr album has remained a very nice listen for me. And it turns out the guy is from my hometown! I messaged him and he was very nice. There's a gig coming up this month that I'll likely go and see.
Looking forward to that FoT album though I only ever listened to the first really. I was always amazed that someone could sing and play guitar along such detached lines..

the new Pup is streaming at NPR and I have to say the prospect of them + Jeff Rosenstock at an all-ages show later this week has me pretty fucking stoked

i don't like pup at all musically but live they are incredible

oh also Speedy Ortiz/Hop Along tonight and Hotelier tomorrow!
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 21 May 2016 20:01 (eight years ago) link
Hotelier were great - felt lucky to catch them at this stage - but their openers. Loone and Todd Slant, were almost as good.

hey i've never heard of this band before! their album is out the 10th? it sounds pretty great http://www.halfcloth.com/premiere-deer-leap-go-big-go-home/
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 22:29 (eight years ago) link
So many big releases recently! Hotelier/Tiny Moving Parts/Pup/Into It. Over It...all excellent.
I tried the Thrice album, but haven't been able to get behind them since Vheissu. I much prefer when the emphasis is post-hardcore.
Not sure if this is really the right place for this, but The World is a Beautiful Place... released a great two-track single ('Long Live Happy Birthday') that's much darker than their previous album. 'Katamari Duquette' is like a condensed Silver Mt Zion song.

just heard new blink album. it's... ok. the best parts are the parts that remind me of the older albums i like. kinda feeling like this is the year of disappointing warped tour band retreads and now i'm scared for new brand new :(

^ This is so cute, I like it a lot.
I couldn't make it through the new Blink, but I'm still holding out hopes of Brand New being decent based on the strength of the single.
I'm starting my half year music audit tonight so I might scrape together a little EOTY playlist so it doesn't all get lost.

Aaaah the new TTNG (formerly This Town Needs Guns...can see why that was changed...) is great! Lovely math-y emo. Is this what twinkle is? Anyway, it's amazing.

the last ttng record was unfortunately kinda the perfect example of "this is impressive, but the songs aren't really there." i still liked it and i'm looking forward to the new one

I'd never heard them before, but I'm so impressed. They're kind of like an understated Youthmovies, but more midwest. (But from Oxford). Bliss Quest and Destroy the Tabernacle! are standouts for me from the album.
