Muse - Black Holes and Revelations

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:44 (seven years ago) link

You can't have that Muse album...

imago, Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:45 (seven years ago) link

...without Muse - Origin Of Symmetry as well

imago, Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:45 (seven years ago) link

NO Muse.

I'm only allowing the emo if Brad gives the OK as it was he who didnt want it in this poll. (possible emo poll at some point?)

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:48 (seven years ago) link

John Zorn - Asmodeus
Ambergris - Ambergris
Camera Obscura - To Change the Shape of an Envelope
Rush - Clockwork Angels

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:50 (seven years ago) link

Are there 2 Camera Obscura's? lol

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:54 (seven years ago) link

You want to expand to the full hard rock spectrum but you want to exclude the biggest hard rock band in the world?

xp There are at least four on discogs. This is the San Diego hardcore band.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 21 July 2016 18:55 (seven years ago) link

dont count, sorry.

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 19:41 (seven years ago) link

and then imago would want to nominate Mansun or something like that. :)

*puts foot down*

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 19:51 (seven years ago) link

I think we have pretty much everything important nominated now.

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 19:52 (seven years ago) link

San Diego Camera Obscura

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:38 (seven years ago) link

i already allowed that one since you seem dead set on voting for it. Nobody gets late nominations if its not stuff you really want to vote for. the nominations period lasted months and that was when anyone should have voted for the stuff noones heard of really that MIGHT get 1 vote.

I would say everythings been added as of yesterday so its only the important stuff I'll add now

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:49 (seven years ago) link

will be funny though if the twee pop fans mistakenly vote for it though sund4r :)

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:50 (seven years ago) link

Thank you for adding my last minute additions. I will be voting for every one of them. Sorry about that.

gman59, Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:24 (seven years ago) link

No worries. I didn't even know anyone had voted until moka said yesterday she had.
I should ask seandalai to edit the form so that people know to say here they have so we can check it went through.

But only about 1 in 20 ever posts that they have voted anyway.

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 22:16 (seven years ago) link

Looks like we did get a couple more today as we're into double figures but please remember folks to post here when you do your ballot.

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 21 July 2016 23:30 (seven years ago) link

thought I knew which Immolation I was going to go with, but now I don't. Damn band hasn't made any bad records, have they?

Dominique, Friday, 22 July 2016 02:56 (seven years ago) link

Never heard any

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 07:09 (seven years ago) link

Really unique sounding, and definitely a bridge between the early US death metal sound of Incantation, Morbid Angel, and the like, and modern, experimental death metal. Close to A World Below is probably their most popular record, and weirdly, also happens to be the least compromising, as far as weird riffs and general intensity.

Dominique, Friday, 22 July 2016 13:46 (seven years ago) link

I just dont like 99% of death metal

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 15:05 (seven years ago) link

Me neither but Immolation is part of the 1%

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 22 July 2016 15:40 (seven years ago) link

Damn 1% always ruling everything

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 19:24 (seven years ago) link

been working all day on my ballot and Ive got my top 100 sorted. Top 30 in order now.

Just got to decide whether to order the rest or have the rest unweighted.

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 20:58 (seven years ago) link

Voting only ends in september, I'm going to listen to a lot of nominations first.

Siegbran, Friday, 22 July 2016 21:18 (seven years ago) link

If anyone wants to check out spacerocky psychedelic doom metal then check out the 5ive albums.

No, not the boyband.

5ive - 5ive
https://open.spotify.com/album/05J5tYEHp8S5o3Dw6oroXv

5ive - Hesperus
https://open.spotify.com/album/5s9fLbUPUB54v1f29ObUwX

that made the 2008 metal poll top 20 i think

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 21:39 (seven years ago) link

Siegbran how will you cut down your 500 album shortlist to 100?

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 22 July 2016 21:42 (seven years ago) link

Ruthlessly.

Siegbran, Friday, 22 July 2016 21:43 (seven years ago) link

you will need to be ruthless. But it isn't easy.

Cosmic Slop, Saturday, 23 July 2016 12:37 (seven years ago) link

Time for some listening. Has anyone added anything to the Spotify playlist?

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 24 July 2016 12:41 (seven years ago) link

Just re-voted. Please only use the newest one. Thank you. Sorry about that.

gman59, Sunday, 24 July 2016 22:32 (seven years ago) link

No probs. Will let seandalai know tomorrow just incase he isn't reading this thread

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 24 July 2016 23:12 (seven years ago) link

I let seandalai know

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 25 July 2016 18:04 (seven years ago) link

I'm listening to Vintersorg's Visions From the Spiral Generator now. I bought Till Fjälls back at least ten years ago but never really got into anything else they did-- I think someone from a forum I was on at the time suggested it as an indispensable metal album but I didn't even know they were still going in 2005, much less 2016. Spiral Generator is great so far, definitely going to end up in my bottom 30 or so (reserved for stuff I hadn't heard before assembling a ballot).

Tom Violence, Monday, 25 July 2016 20:00 (seven years ago) link

what year is that from?

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 12:02 (seven years ago) link

I think I've settled on my new top 10 in the wake of the new nominations.

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 21:37 (seven years ago) link

xpost Spiral Generator was 2002, Till Fjälls was 1998.

Tom Violence, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 22:00 (seven years ago) link

One of the reasons I prefer Spiral Generator to his earlier albums is that it was the first to use outside musicians, rather than just two guys and a drum machine. And it doesn't hurt that the drummer was Asgeir Mickelson and the bassist was Steve DiGiorgio. (Not to say that the pre-Visons stuff wasn't great too.)

Kinda lost track of Vintersorg after Focusing Blur so one of these days I need to binge.

also obligatory fuck yeah for new Coroner

Devilock, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 23:18 (seven years ago) link

oh right, the Coroner mention was in the other thread; not used to having more than one metal thread floating around

Devilock, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 23:24 (seven years ago) link

It's a good thing though. ILM needs the M to be metal.

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 27 July 2016 12:03 (seven years ago) link

Just had to check if Swallowed - Lunarterial made the list, glad it did 'cos I was listening to it last night and forgot how great it is. It really captures the spirit of those ugly early 90s Finndeath demos/albums but doesn't feel retro, it's violent and atmospheric and utterly horrible in the best way.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 27 July 2016 18:04 (seven years ago) link

Listening to Oneida now. It sounds like Trans Am?

Tom Violence, Thursday, 28 July 2016 21:24 (seven years ago) link

Early Oneida was stoner rock then they went in a more Krauty direction

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 29 July 2016 00:06 (seven years ago) link

You listening to Each One Teach One? That's the noisy krautrock masterpiece

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 29 July 2016 00:07 (seven years ago) link

I bet it was 'Secret Wars'

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 29 July 2016 16:40 (seven years ago) link

I dunno why C'mon Everybody Lets Rock wasn't nominated. That's a brilliant album.

Cosmic Slop, Saturday, 30 July 2016 02:15 (seven years ago) link

So would anyone like to campaign for some albums? It's a great way to make sure lesser known albums get listened to and maybe voted into the poll.

For those who have only ever heard Boris 'Pink' or 'Smile' please check out the masterpieces
'Flood'
'At Last : Feedbacker'
'Akuma No Uta'
'Dronevil'

Cosmic Slop, Saturday, 30 July 2016 17:08 (seven years ago) link

There's been some discussion of Imperial Triumphant's Abyssal Gods on this forum already but it seems like every time I play it for someone, they've never heard it before, and they're usually impressed, so I guess if anyone hasn't heard it, you should try it?

Tom Violence, Sunday, 31 July 2016 04:01 (seven years ago) link

Maybe I need to?

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 31 July 2016 18:49 (seven years ago) link

I played it the other night in plug.dj and you didn't like it due to the death metal vox. It's good stuff though, assuming you can deal with the singing.
