"It really is a nice album! Just reissued too."
"Did not know this, thanks for the tipoff! Just ordered the vinyl."

would be curious to hear the new vinyl just to see if they made any improvements or if they just made it louder or whatever. my original pressing is not that loud. and if i crank it up it doesn't sound the best. i've never actually heard the CD. i should find an old CD. or a new one.

i got an old CD copy of their last album recently and it sounded good. totally forgot about that album. glad there are new reissues of How It Feels...though! now new sad sacks can revel in it.

Looking forward to glenn's summation of this thread, even though it doesn't directly benefit Spotify (and even though Julianna Hatfield seems to be lagging). Thread should be renamed "Blue Nile discovered by Americans."

The problem is, I don't have five favourite albums, it's more like 1,300 favourite albums or something... and am I fuck ranking them and posting 'em all here.

pen pineapple apple pen (Turrican), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 19:27 (eight years ago) link

dude just suck it up and post 5 albums you like its very simple, you coulda been done already. we all have 1300 favorite albums.

Spottie, Tuesday, 4 October 2016 19:30 (eight years ago) link

it's like, don't think too hard about it. name a couple albums you've been playing nonstop, and then name a few more that you hold in high regard. obviously it's impossible to have only five or whatever

kinda interested in how fluid people's lists are here

3 of the 5 albums i posted would be in my top 5 at any time in the past 15-20 years.

SAW 85-92 i played endlessly in high school but somehow my perception of it has completely blossomed and overwhelmed me in the past few years.

hangman's beautiful daughter i just listed because i was listening to it at that moment and was vibing to it pretty hard.

brimstead, Tuesday, 4 October 2016 22:21 (eight years ago) link

I love this thread. No snark just people listing albums they like. Its nice!

I'm making my way through it starting at the very top with Song Cycle by Van Dyke Parks. This albumis errr, hard work so far tbh. I mean I WANT TO LIKE IT, I love the Beach Boys and the crazy intent this is aiming for but...

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Tuesday, 4 October 2016 22:24 (eight years ago) link

On fluidity: London Calling and Purple Rain are etched in stone. The other three could be any other three albums from a list of 20 or so albums that I love.

"This albumis errr, hard work so far tbh. I mean I WANT TO LIKE IT,"

it's willfully difficult and it came make some people wonder if its worth the effort. i think i kinda appreciate it more than like it.

scott seward, Tuesday, 4 October 2016 23:24 (eight years ago) link

Song Cycle isn't that much work? I can imagine finding it twee and annoying but it's not a piece that you're going to unlock through study.

it's pretty blurry though. you do sort of have to adjust for aural drunk-vision.

Bizarrely (perhaps) I've always found it to be a real singalong album.
