3 of the 5 albums i posted would be in my top 5 at any time in the past 15-20 years.

SAW 85-92 i played endlessly in high school but somehow my perception of it has completely blossomed and overwhelmed me in the past few years.

I'm making my way through it starting at the very top with Song Cycle by Van Dyke Parks. This albumis errr, hard work so far tbh. I mean I WANT TO LIKE IT, I love the Beach Boys and the crazy intent this is aiming for but...

On fluidity: London Calling and Purple Rain are etched in stone. The other three could be any other three albums from a list of 20 or so albums that I love.

it's willfully difficult and it came make some people wonder if its worth the effort. i think i kinda appreciate it more than like it.

Song Cycle isn't that much work? I can imagine finding it twee and annoying but it's not a piece that you're going to unlock through study.

Song Cycle definitely takes a few listens but it's a total trio once you get used to the underwater musichall vibe

brimstead - two of my choices were straightfire albums I've loved since my teens (Boo Radleys and Autechre). Pere Ubu album is something I've owned for a long time but only come round to realising was one of my favourites in the last couple of years.

I could have mentioned any Scott Walker album because his effect on me in the last 3 or 4 years has been profound and I've taken his work in as a single body really. The outlier, of course, is the Young Thug album which only came out a few weeks ago but I've been rinsing to death.

Veedon Fleece crossed my mind as one to list. I love Astral Weeks too but VF always felt more personal to me.
