Song Cycle definitely takes a few listens but it's a total trio once you get used to the underwater musichall vibe

brimstead - two of my choices were straightfire albums I've loved since my teens (Boo Radleys and Autechre). Pere Ubu album is something I've owned for a long time but only come round to realising was one of my favourites in the last couple of years.

I could have mentioned any Scott Walker album because his effect on me in the last 3 or 4 years has been profound and I've taken his work in as a single body really. The outlier, of course, is the Young Thug album which only came out a few weeks ago but I've been rinsing to death.

Veedon Fleece crossed my mind as one to list. I love Astral Weeks too but VF always felt more personal to me.

five great records from the rym top 5000 none of which i had heard before today.

Blue Nile are one of several good bands my mother played a lot since I was very young but they were the last one that really clicked. I was kind of astonished when it stopped being dull and it started sounding rich and gorgeous.

Cor, that Nuno Cannavaro album is the business.

In A Silent Way must have been mentioned at least three times now? Remain in Light, too.

RYM is a great way for aspies like me to catalogue, discover and collect thoughts about music, but it's not for the casual listener sure

This thread is great but this exercise is hard af. Kills me I can't fit any Al Green/Fugazi/Unwound on there, or much rap or newer stuff. But I tend to love long, messy albums that you can explore forever, and each of these LPs introduced me to huge worlds of music so they'll always hold a special place
