xxpost

Speaking of Dionne Farris disappearing, isn't it about time for another D'Angelo album?

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago) link

aren't "my favorite" and "stoner" redundant, nick?

Oh ZING you FUCKER.

"Groovy Train" by the Farm

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:01 (nineteen years ago) link

the theme song to Pete and Pete killed, who was it?

Polaris or Polara or something like that.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I actually just downloaded that Groovy Train song a couple of months ago. It sat in my mp3 folder, occasionally popping up in a shuffle and shaming me.

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:03 (nineteen years ago) link

okay I'm stuck on this Dionne Farris thing, but here's the trifecta of the "original neo-soul" movement, please say thank you Alicia and Norah:

Dionne Farris - I Know
Gabrielle - Dreams
Des'ree - You Gotta Be

Which also brings to mind Me'Shell NdegéOcello - If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night).

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:10 (nineteen years ago) link

How is it that I don't recognize that Gabrielle song? Maybe I've heard it and didn't know who it was.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Sponge...the song with the chorus "a world of human wreckage"

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:12 (nineteen years ago) link

matt2, excellent choices, I could not fro the life of me remember that des'ree track and Gabrielle rules.

jmeister (jmeister), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Ha! Sponge.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Johnny Fever, unless you are joking, the Gabrielle song is the one from Magnolia that Quizkid Donnie whatever is always listening to in his car.

Dreams can come true
Look at me babe I'm with you
You know you gotta have hope
You know you gotta be strong

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm gonna have to d/l it, because I seriously can't place it at all.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Found it, listened to it... I've never heard this song ever.

(Well, I must have heard it in Magnolia, but didn't remember it at all.)

I remember this one thread kinda like this back in the day where ethan/trife professed a love for that song that went "she don't eat meat but she sure like the bone" and being dumbfounded by it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I was dumbfounded by his love for it, I mean.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago) link

How about that "I'm drowin' . . I'm burnin' . . I'm bleeding to death . EVERYTHING'S FINE!!!". Who on earth did that song? Sort of an Alanis Morrisette-style thing.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 19:45 (nineteen years ago) link

That was an awesome video, daria. And I think i did see it on beavis & Butthead.

And I don't recognize the Gabrielle song either. I dimly remember hearing her name, but I must not have been listening to pop radio or watching MTv when it came out.

It is TOTALLY time for another D'Angelo album. Been about 7 years since the last one, so he's due.

Also, totally time for another D'Angelo tour...I've heard nothing but stellar reviews from his Voodoo tour.

"New Age Girl", Deadeye Dick. Funny, this was going through my head shortly before bed a few nights ago. And I couldn't for the life of me figure out why, 'cause I haven't heard it since it was a hit.

xpost: Gabrielle's "Dreams" owns.

John Mellencamp - Wild Night (on that NdegéOcello tip)
Robert Palmer - Mercy Mercy Me
Elton John - The Last Song
Bryan Adams - The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You (shudder)

That How Bizarre song

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Thursday, 7 April 2005 20:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Who did that horrible hi-NRG type hit from around 1996 that went something like "WAAAAAAHdiscopop! You know you wanna make my mine! You know you wanna make mine!" and for its verse just repeated "I'm gonna get you baby... I'm gonna get you, yes I am!"? Urgh...that unnerved the hell out of me but I think I'll finally forget it when I learn what it's called and who does it...

Whoever did that song "Mr. Personality"...and then some other alternative radio staple that sounded very dated at the time (it sounded like something they'd play for the intro of E!'s Talk Soup or something...very 80's, sounding a bit like Momus' "I Was a Maoist Intellectual" at higher BPM) and I think it repeated something like "ex-junkie born again didn't have a clue" a hundred times over.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Thursday, 7 April 2005 21:10 (nineteen years ago) link

That's not horrible, that's Bizarre Inc..
