ILM's Top 77 Tracks of 2016

i'm not sure i have voted for any underworld tracks on any polls before ('always loved a film', maybe.) this album just hit the sweet spot for me, i guess the last three albums are decent-to-very good, but they didn't get me thrilled by the idea of another underworld album til i actually heard this one.

i voted for 3 underworld tracks but not If Rah, as great as it is.

lmao at how well the underworld record is doing. i didn't vote for any of it and i thought approximately four people liked it here

One thing that happens when you wait until after midnight on deadline day to send in a list is that you forget obvious things -- like "Girl Next Door," which totally should have been on my ballot. Glad it ranked anyway.

I suppose I should give the Underworld album another chance then.

This Brandy Clark song isn't really my sort of thing but I do like the harmonies in the chorus.

'I Exhale' is great, couldn't really get into the entire record but love the opening

"If Rah" is definitely gonna place then, I thought that was the one most people were stanning for

my kid loves the "I Exhale" video, probably because hyde acts like a Muppet in it

oui is nice, but the track with Jeremih I liked the most this year was enemiez

Wow, this second Underworld tune is awful! Never been a big fan of their vocals, but at least they used to have banging techno beats and cool, evocative synth loops underneath them... But this is just horrible mumblecore indie rock, not much better than The Fall.

"enemiez" was brilliant, "body" with dreezy was my jeremih fix of 2k16

Think a lot of Underworld naysayers might actually like 'Santiago Cuatro' from the album if nothing else.

I like the album generally but not 'If Rah' much at all.

The first Underworld track I ever heard was this one (the compilation I had labelled it as Underworld, not Lemon Interupt), when I was 14... I really, really liked the tune, it was so evocative and deep and mysterious (and being a geek I obviously dug the Akira sample at the end), and I thought they were some kind of experimental trance/ambient house act. Bought Dubnobass... and was disappointed to discover they had silly nasal singing on every tune, even the version of "Dirty". So my history with Underworld has literally been all downhill from that first counter, and that tune upthread is pretty much the nadir.

And yeah, I get it, my conception of them was misguided, they were always a rock band disguising as a techno act, but it's so sad, they had so much potential in them, if they'd just proceeded to the direction pointed out by the original "Dirty".

Well they could've been a great techno act! Instead of becoming a critically acclaimed crossover-whatever act for people who might not even like techno. Of course potential squandered to the left can be acclaim gained on the right, but I'm only speaking from my point of view, as a rock-hating tehno lover. They lost us while they claimed you.
