woops wrong thread sorry to muck up this one

"native land" is a lovely outro
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2017 19:57 (seven years ago) link
I'm not sure how many unifying techno records there were from last year but I'd stick a fiver on Avalon Emerson or Willow appearing.
― Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2017 19:57 (seven years ago) link
Im sorry, Emily, I know you love electronic music... That "you" was supposed to mean "you all" in plural, not you personally. (Why doesn't English have different words for singular and plural second person, it can get confusing?)
― Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2017 19:58 (seven years ago) link
youse is plural of you fyi

This KING song is just making me wish I was listening to Sade or Les Nubiens instead.

I wasn't aware of KING until 'The Greatest' placed in last year's poll so the whole album was new to me - 'Native Land' isn't my favourite but still happy to see it here.
― Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link
oh hey cool this thing is happening. i voted for 'atomic number' (all songs about atomic weapons are great) + 'girl next door'
― Mordy, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link
I wonder what the record is for most tracks placed from one album on these lists? In The Meantime, Mister Chameleon, The Greatest and now Native Land have all made it from We Are King so far. I'm guessing there will be another couple of songs still to come this year.
― Kitchen Person, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link
(i know it's not really about atomic weapons btw pedants that was just a joke) xp
― Mordy, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:01 (seven years ago) link
most of the HAIM record placed over 3 yrs iirc but that doesn't have a ton of tracks
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:02 (seven years ago) link
Yeah, Haim were the only ones I could think of who would come close. I think they had five or six songs make it over that three year period.
― Kitchen Person, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:10 (seven years ago) link
oh hey

Still only one track with at least one #1 vote so far. By this point in the rundown last year we'd had eight.
― nashwan, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:16 (seven years ago) link
Native Land is the first one I've voted for to make the list, obv Hey is amazing but I didn't vote for it cause it's been around for at least 6 or 7 years
― voodoo chili, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:16 (seven years ago) link
native land is gorgeous

This is probably my favourite post of last year.
"hey (extended mix)" makes me feel like this song loves me and cares about my well-being more than any person ever has in my entire life

― marcos, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link
damn u guys really split the KING vote, i had 'hey' pegged for Top 3
― flopson, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:28 (seven years ago) link
the extended part is very welcome, especially since i could sink into Hey for about 1000 hours and wonder where the time went
― voodoo chili, Monday, 23 January 2017 20:28 (seven years ago) link
"Hey" is very beautiful but even though it was a new mix it still felt like an old song to me. I just voted for the KING album instead as picking tracks from that was too hard

original version of "HEY" placing in the 2011 or 2012 poll remains one of my best discoveries from the EOY 77 polls

calling in sick is my favourite discovery from the voting process, great song, i found it after i submitted my ballot though, so glad it placed!

My no.7 but should have been higher. Probably the only soca anthem that really grabbed me this year.

yeah only recently discovered this too so I didn't vote for it, but it is a banger

it's fucking brilliant, probably my favourite too, but i don't know why nobody picked up on "Fraid Jab" which is barely behind it imo

that King Bubba track totally rules and it is pleasing to see a big ol' ugly baldy in the mix.
