Stabscotch album still brilliant, great sunshine listening weirdly enough
Absolutely slaughters the PC Worship album too

Imago, ciderpress, you know this? My prog-metal-loving cousin recommended it. Pretty hooky for theatrical ADD proggy hard rock. Apparently, it's just one guy. The lyrics seem important, and interesting when I pay attention to them, but I haven't really focused on them in my first two listens.

More of a novelty but here is the Toehider dude singing "Wuthering Heights" in the original key.

Approached with a bit of skepticism but it's pretty cool! Good songwriting is the key here as the sound would otherwise turn me off. Lies somewhere between Ginger Wildheart and Thumpermonkey. Will certainly listen to all of it when I can

Also, ORANSSI PAZUZU. They wrote my favourite song of last year and now they've gone and written maybe my favourite song of this year so far (give or take a Richard Dawson)

Would this be a suitable place to mention Pryapisme? A search only brings up some posts on the Dutch(?) board.
Anyway, I commend the subtle, restrained tones of their latest to the denizens of this thread. It's the first I've heard and from what I can tell I like this better than their other stuff.
I mean, come on.

Does the Oranssi Pazuzu guy ever do 'normal' singing I wonder. The temptation must have been there to go straight up goth baritone on that track. It is really good though. Rhythmically straightforward but nice chords and bassline. Sounds better than last year's album as well.

Few can resist feeling the new joy that the start of summer brings. For men and women of all ages, it’s the time to shift to lighter-weighted colorful patterns, spend weekends in the backyard tuning up bicycles and barbecue grills, and plan what will eventually turn out to be tortuous family excursions to the country or beach house. For others, like the Colin Stetson-featured, free-thinking, prog-metal foursome EX EYE it means losing all inhibitions by setting new parameters in accelerated decibels, tearing eardrums and collapsing sphincters with its machine-shop-pounding, narcotic freefall noise, and releasing a self-titled debut album on June 23, when everything is still as fresh as an egg from the farm!In addition to Stetson on alto and bass saxophones, EX EYE features the sickeningly versatile talents of Greg Fox(Liturgy, Guardian Angel, Skeletons, Zs),Shahzad Ismaily (Secret Chiefs 3, Causing a Tiger, Ceramic Dog) and Toby Summerfield (Never Enough Hope, Crush Kill Destroy) on drums, synths, and guitars respectively. If there were any doubts as to the intensity of this debut disc, it bears noting that it IS coming out on Relapse. If you need audio affidavits of proof, listen to the 12+ magnificent loud and fast minutes of “Opposition/Perihelion; The Coil” down below. EX EYE(the album) is out June 23 on CD, LP and digital and can be pre-ordered by clicking here or here.In addition, EX EYE have some live dates booked for June and August and just played at the 33rd edition of the Festival International Musique Actuelle Victoriaville last week. At the same fest,Stetson performed “Sorrow,” his “reimagining of Gorecki’s 3rd Symphony,” as an 11-piece ensemble including Fox and Ismaily, Rebecca Foon (Saltland, Esmerine), Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre), Gyða Valtýsdóttir (múm), Amanda Lo, and Stetson’s sister Megan, the mezzo-soprano. Not fussed about Stetson's solo jams but that press release does a good job of getting me hyped
― ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 1 June 2017 13:15 (six years ago) link
Going to admit that, while I shared the press release with D.A.M. when I saw it, I didn't get a chance to listen to the sample track until now (which is why I didn't post about it). It sounds good, though! I really like Stetson's sound but sometimes find his solo repertoire a little limited, compositionally, so it's good to see him integrate it into this framework. (I haven't heard his take on Gorecki tbh.)

xxxp I can't decide if Macula Dog is quite good or supremely irritating or both. I mean it's some impressively weird pop-something-wave but the cheapo sounds set my teeth on edge (this is probably intentional lol). But by god I despise that entire record label's ugly sense of aesthetics, again it's probably intentional, but ugh.

This should have some crossover appeal with people who like the Stabscotch album:
https://gasplapsychviolence.bandcamp.com/album/ghost-in-scow-out-1-week-free-download
Weirdo psychedelic hardcore band that combined noise rock, powerviolence and queasy tape loops and haven't released anything since the late 90s, suddenly re-emerging now. It's a reunion very few people were clamouring for but 1998's Drome Triler of Puzzle Zoo People is a hidden gem, serious.
