Movie soundtracks, apparently!

I love Marvel but sort of hated that movie for the way it used music. Especially my reverence for O-o-h Child was insulted.

Not old and not a fan of the film(s) so here's the third explanation for O-O-H Child: it's fucking beautiful! Not the ooh child part but all those somedays are out of this world.

I like Curtis Mayfield, but I guess I'm anchored to the charts for most of the decade. "Move On Up" didn't even chart...I missed whenever it became famous.

I think there are better Soul albums than Curtis but few better Soul songs than "Move On Up."

Not surprised it didn't chart, unless there's a single edit that I've (thankfully) never heard.

Curtis... is not that good? Riot is but as an album, this is too high for Family Affair alone.

I vote 60s next, but only because the 80s is too huge of a listening project for me atm.

Don't know that I've heard or heard of "Band of Gold" or "O-o-h Child"

I knew Move On Up was going to take this poll as soon as it became apparent early on that the majority of voters were UK based. It's a great great song to be sure but it doesn't get nearly as much love in North America. This was true at the time of its release as well. The Jam cover may also have helped (see also "Stoned Out of My Mind") to cement its mythic status in the UK.

80s R&B is a v grim wasteland imo. There's good stuff but the charts are fucking dire.

Another potential stumbling point for an 80s poll: how would you narrow it down to only certain Prince and MJ tracks?

fwiw, 'Move On Up' only slipped into first place at the very end. 'Family Affair' was #1 for most of the time. The difference in points is also very small.

My hot take is that I prefer the Destination disco version of "Move On Up."

80s would be interesting I think - classic Stax/Motown/etc face-off will be fun too but idk if there will be many surprises. I feel the continuity between 70s soul/funk/disco and what came after is less mined-out; maybe that's just my own ignorance though.
