cumlord jamar (The Reverend), Thursday, 7 May 2009 08:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Am I the only noticing he's got some twangy vocals going on in parts of "Rockin That Shit" and "Take U Home 2 My Mama"? Where did that come from?

cumlord jamar (The Reverend), Thursday, 7 May 2009 08:34 (fifteen years ago) link

like what lines would you say are twangy on "Rockin'"?

shipforbrains (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link

i always thought i was just hearing things but right at the 1 min mark of "rockin that shit" after he says "nothin i can saayyy.." the beat drops out and you hear this little blip and it's the same sound that happens when you get an IM on ichat

ships: "Ok I'm lyin'/ Damn you fine/ And umm..." and "Take Me I'm yours/ Shawty" and "Don't leave us on the floor/ Shawty". It's less pronounced than on "Take U Home 2 My Mama".

The-Dream Recording New Album for December

dabug, Friday, 8 May 2009 17:52 (fifteen years ago) link

damn i would pay lots to see him do his songs w/ a live band

triple-hater protection (J0rdan S.), Friday, 8 May 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

I feel like 4 dancers is too modest. Should be more like a Kylie extravaganza or something.

dabug, Friday, 8 May 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

!!!!

k3vin k., Friday, 8 May 2009 18:25 (fifteen years ago) link

fwiw love vs money was supposed to come out last december so i'm sure love king will come out next march

triple-hater protection (J0rdan S.), Friday, 8 May 2009 18:29 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i think w/ mid-level rap/R&B artists now delays are such an inevitability that now guys start talking up their next album as soon as the last one's out and pretend they're on a Plies-style release schedule, just to compensate for the fact that it'll be out at least 3-6 months later than they say it will.

had a weird (and excellent) moment on sunday - met ikonika at fwd and we ended up raving about the-dream to each other for like half an hour

lex pretend, Friday, 8 May 2009 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Did anyone see this in the Billboard piece?

"I have to pace myself 'cause there's so much time between here and then," The-Dream says, "but the seven records I do have are timeless records. Whether they come out now or later it's not really going to matter what kind of records they are."

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Friday, 8 May 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

that last sentence doesn't really make any sense, like he dropped a clause or something somewhere

Briney Deep Coralgarden (some dude), Friday, 8 May 2009 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

nice, didn't know about the pier six show -- it's fun to just sit on the next pier over and watch shows there for free

Briney Deep Coralgarden (some dude), Friday, 8 May 2009 19:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Goddamn I love this album but not sure if it's worth a trip to Dallas or Houston.

i love his first album like a son & i live in the chi but i dont really expect much from a live show & am not about to pay for tix to see it

autogucci cru (deej), Saturday, 9 May 2009 07:09 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, my expectations are too high

Ticket prices announced?

Banvil! The Story of Banvil (Tape Store), Saturday, 9 May 2009 07:15 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i don't know if i'd come to see him by himself just because his live vocals can be pretty damn rough, but keyshia/dream/keri/bobby v is a pretty good bill.

i just noticed that at 2:17 on "mr. yeah" dream yells "ASK MARIAH"

you know i'm kind of coming around on the lil jon track

Swat Valley High (goole), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Funny, I've played the album at least 20 times but couldn't make it through the Lil Jon track once.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago) link

it's a great club track - it feels weird to listen to it after "kellys 12 play" but i always thought that it was equally as good as it was weird

oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link

it's so slooowwww! and it begins badly but by the time it gets into the the-dream-as-barbershop-ensemble stuff i really like it.

Swat Valley High (goole), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago) link

hey why did ne-yo win this? im not saying this because i think he's the worse of the two (which i do), but rather there seems to be alot of people on ilm who like the-dream, like alot. i was surprised to see it on so many "best albums of the year so far" lists so i downloaded it and now it's on mine. is it just me and there are only six of you, or do the lot just prefer ne-yo?

samosa gibreel, Monday, 18 May 2009 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link

a lot of ppl jumped on around the time of the year end polls. before that it was just a core group. read thru the thread

autogucci cru (deej), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link

i wonder how many ne-yo voters have heard dream's album

then again, there's a lot of critics who got really excited when ne-yo got snivelly on Gentleman.

da croupier, Monday, 18 May 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah back when this poll was started dream's first album had only been out for three months, had little to know press or promo etc - most ppl jumped on way later and im pretty sure he'd win this poll if it was held again

oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:14 (fifteen years ago) link

well yeah this thread basically is ilm's only the-dream thread, and the poll was started over a year ago, before LVM and only shortly after L/H. so thats why the now-outdated poll results undervalue terius' supporters here

xpost or what jordan said

man see united (k3vin k.), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno...i'm not 100% sure the-dream would win if this poll was held today. he might, but it's not a lock.

cool, i hadn't noticed. what are people thoughts on the first album, btw? i haven't heard it.

samosa gibreel, Monday, 18 May 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah you're might be right - dream would probs get more than 6 votes at least

year of the gent is good but it's crushed by l/h and lvm - it might have better singles come to think of it

short answer: lots of ppl on ilm think it's a classic - i think it finished in the top 15 in the end of the year poll

oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

All other thoughts I have about "Let Me See The Booty" are crowded out by wondering why Lil Jon keeps on shouting "LOUIE!"
