Am I the only noticing he's got some twangy vocals going on in parts of "Rockin That Shit" and "Take U Home 2 My Mama"? Where did that come from?
― cumlord jamar (The Reverend), Thursday, 7 May 2009 08:34 (fifteen years ago) link
like what lines would you say are twangy on "Rockin'"?
― shipforbrains (some dude), Thursday, 7 May 2009 12:56 (fifteen years ago) link
i always thought i was just hearing things but right at the 1 min mark of "rockin that shit" after he says "nothin i can saayyy.." the beat drops out and you hear this little blip and it's the same sound that happens when you get an IM on ichat

ive played this shit 30+ times, which is probably about twice as many as my second most-played album this year

ships: "Ok I'm lyin'/ Damn you fine/ And umm..." and "Take Me I'm yours/ Shawty" and "Don't leave us on the floor/ Shawty". It's less pronounced than on "Take U Home 2 My Mama".

I feel like 4 dancers is too modest. Should be more like a Kylie extravaganza or something.

yeah i think w/ mid-level rap/R&B artists now delays are such an inevitability that now guys start talking up their next album as soon as the last one's out and pretend they're on a Plies-style release schedule, just to compensate for the fact that it'll be out at least 3-6 months later than they say it will.

Did anyone see this in the Billboard piece?
"I have to pace myself 'cause there's so much time between here and then," The-Dream says, "but the seven records I do have are timeless records. Whether they come out now or later it's not really going to matter what kind of records they are."

yeah i don't know if i'd come to see him by himself just because his live vocals can be pretty damn rough, but keyshia/dream/keri/bobby v is a pretty good bill.

it's a great club track - it feels weird to listen to it after "kellys 12 play" but i always thought that it was equally as good as it was weird
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link
it's so slooowwww! and it begins badly but by the time it gets into the the-dream-as-barbershop-ensemble stuff i really like it.
― Swat Valley High (goole), Monday, 18 May 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago) link
hey why did ne-yo win this? im not saying this because i think he's the worse of the two (which i do), but rather there seems to be alot of people on ilm who like the-dream, like alot. i was surprised to see it on so many "best albums of the year so far" lists so i downloaded it and now it's on mine. is it just me and there are only six of you, or do the lot just prefer ne-yo?
― samosa gibreel, Monday, 18 May 2009 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link
a lot of ppl jumped on around the time of the year end polls. before that it was just a core group. read thru the thread
― autogucci cru (deej), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:08 (fifteen years ago) link
i wonder how many ne-yo voters have heard dream's album
― deej, Friday, March 14, 2008 8:44 PM (1 year ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
then again, there's a lot of critics who got really excited when ne-yo got snivelly on Gentleman.
― da croupier, Monday, 18 May 2009 22:10 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah back when this poll was started dream's first album had only been out for three months, had little to know press or promo etc - most ppl jumped on way later and im pretty sure he'd win this poll if it was held again
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:14 (fifteen years ago) link
well yeah this thread basically is ilm's only the-dream thread, and the poll was started over a year ago, before LVM and only shortly after L/H. so thats why the now-outdated poll results undervalue terius' supporters here
xpost or what jordan said
― man see united (k3vin k.), Monday, 18 May 2009 22:17 (fifteen years ago) link
i dunno...i'm not 100% sure the-dream would win if this poll was held today. he might, but it's not a lock.

yeah you're might be right - dream would probs get more than 6 votes at least
year of the gent is good but it's crushed by l/h and lvm - it might have better singles come to think of it

All other thoughts I have about "Let Me See The Booty" are crowded out by wondering why Lil Jon keeps on shouting "LOUIE!"

"Love Vs. Money""Love Vs. Money: Part 2"
I'm hoping these flow into one another, the segue being announced by a sudden irruption/eruption of melodramatic strings.
