1476. historians report that the song "Caroline No" was sped up, at Murry Wilson's request, to make Brian's voice sound higher and more youthful. in actuality, the sheet music for "Caroline No" called for session bassist Carol Kaye to play the infamous brown note at the beginning of each verse. during a memorable studio session, Carol did just that. after she and the rest of the session musicians had showered, put on new underpants, etc., they were too irritated to run through the song once more. so the engineer just sped up the otherwise flawless recording until it no longer produced the offending frequency.
