Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton has Parkinson's, so producer Andy Sneap will be playing guitar on the upcoming tour.

Lee Dorrian has a D-beat/hardcore band! Who knew? They're called Septic Tank, and their full-length debut (they put out a Japan-only 7" in 2013) is called Rotting Civilisation. If there wasn't a song on it called "Social Media Whore," it could have been recorded in 1986. Coming out in April on Rise Above. RIYL Off! or other similar old-man-can't-hang-it-up retro punk acts.

Maybe I'm biased because they're fellow Montrealers but the new Basalte, Vertige is blowing my mind right now. It's free on Bandcamp, to boot.

Prong and Helmet are doing a co-headlining US tour.
I went to a Helmet show once, but only because Caspar Brötzmann Massaker was the opening act. Once he was finished devastating the place (four songs in 45 minutes), we left. I've never seen Prong, either, though I'm a big fan - I like their last few albums just as much as the stuff from their late '80s/early '90s heyday. So even though the NYC date is midweek, I might just have to go to this.

New Rebel Wizard EP on Bandcamp:http://rebelwizard.bandcamp.com/album/great-addictions-to-blindingly-dark-wordly-life
I thought their album would have done better on the 2017 poll that recently was tabluated. It was definitely very high on my ballot. The EP seems just as fun on first listen, if a bit darker.

Anything good out recently or soon?
Digging the Ataraxy album a lot, cool to hear death metal that isn't trying to be crushingly heavy all the time and they've got a nice epic feel to their longer songs.

I never got a digital promo of the Summoning record so I only now got a chance to listen and it's completely brilliant! Will definitely wind up high on my best albums of 2018. If it doesn't, that means this year winds up being too good for words or I have died.
I just got done reviewing two records I like: Scumpulse, Antifa-loving crusty Scottish black metal, and the new Ilsa record - the first for Relapse. I always liked the band but this is likely the best album they have done.

Black metal with a distinct folk flavour, but not overbearing, like Obsequiae or Ophidian Forest with a bit more post-rock influence maybe. I really like it.

The new Memoriam album is good. Like the second Tau Cross album, it's more of the same, with a few tiny tweaks (one song includes samples from Martin Luther King speeches). I'll be reviewing it on Burning Ambulance on Friday.
