I hate Cream but I had to vote for Badge

droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:46 (six years ago) link

eyyyy my favorite band on the run song is too low

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:47 (six years ago) link

All four of these on my ballot

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:47 (six years ago) link

sax solo

That’s the only New Orleans thing about this New Orleans record.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:48 (six years ago) link

lol I never would have guessed that was recorded in New Orleans. Similar to Band on the Run bearing no resemblance to anything going on in Lagos at the time, I guess. Paul likes to go places but not absorb their influences, I suppose.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:49 (six years ago) link

(and yes I know the Fela story)

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:49 (six years ago) link

Possible he just went for the weed

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:51 (six years ago) link

i mean he's no dave grohl xp

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:51 (six years ago) link

Magneto a really joyful song. Didn’t really consider it one of the absolute best solo Beatles songs for a long time but I do now and had it pretty high.

timellison, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:52 (six years ago) link

how come he never recorded in Kingston? (or did he and I just have never read about it?)

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:52 (six years ago) link

"let 'em in" is just such a sweet, gentle, ambling groove. iirc it's my no. 100

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:52 (six years ago) link

Dave Grohl trying to get the Foo Fighters to do a song with the Bo Diddley rhythm in New Orleans was one of the saddest dad-rock flailing moments I have ever seen. Bizarre that such a world famous drummer can't swing for shit.

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:53 (six years ago) link

lmao otm

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:54 (six years ago) link

Adore Let ‘Em In. Th snare and piccolo thing must’ve really played in 1976.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:54 (six years ago) link

first single-Beatle tie

"Junior's Farm" also had a first-place vote.

WilliamC, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:57 (six years ago) link

xp lol what's up with that pic?

sleeve, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 15:57 (six years ago) link

Dear Boy is one of the few Paul solo songs that sounds like the Beatles and has a melody in their class.

(And I say that as a massive Paul fan)

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:00 (six years ago) link

"Junior's Farm" also had a first-place vote.

oh shit! I fucked something up with your ballot. sit tight everybody

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:00 (six years ago) link

"dear boy" is amazing. "junior's farm" invented shoegaze (j/k) (but am i???)

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:02 (six years ago) link

Hey if you didn't include my ballot can I redo it quickly to include "Special Friend"?
(j/k) (but am i???)
(j/k)

WilliamC, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:04 (six years ago) link

placings posted so far might change slightly

WilliamC your ballot had a couple things wonky with it that I had to accomodate and I screwed up placing Junior's Farm at the top of your ballot as a result, fixing it now

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:05 (six years ago) link

lol williamc

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:06 (six years ago) link

like, you had *both* versions of Isn't it a Pity, a Leon Russell song that I had to disqualify, and "Rock Show" as an individual track (when everybody else had it combined with "Venus and Mars"). So I had to change a few of your entries to match what other people had on their ballots and your "Junior's Farm" entry appears to have gotten messed up in the shuffle

it is the best song

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:08 (six years ago) link

Here's the revised/corrected list of placings posted to-date. Not a huge difference cuz it just shifted most of WilliamC's votes by a single point but still. Sorry for the error

adding to the love for badge, too, what a perfect little gem of a song. that bridge (obviously), that bassline, the massive energy on the final verse.

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:14 (six years ago) link

i've corrected the spotify playlist except it's still starting with "calico skies"

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 16:15 (six years ago) link
