Those last two John songs are both amazing. Really love the whole 'there in the room' sound/feel of POB.

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

i mean it's obv an incredible yoko song, but john's guitar

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

genius

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:51 (six years ago) link

this is also why i think it was great to open up the poll to anything a beatle played on

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:52 (six years ago) link

btw all of the versions of "walking on thin ice" on spotify are modern remixes, so it'll be missing from the playlist

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:54 (six years ago) link

sleeve image always makes me think of Shel Silverstein for some reason, just the way her face is growing out of his head

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:55 (six years ago) link

unsurprised this is the only track from mind games to place

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

that's cool, never seen the 45 pic sleeve

sleeve, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 17:56 (six years ago) link

i also think this song is a tad long for how many actual ideas are in it, but it's a great hook

"Working Class Hero" my #1, easy choice

shoutout to the radio DJ who played this on the air after he died, I was listening

sleeve, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:06 (six years ago) link

"handle with care" was one of the potential no. 1s in my head. i couldn't resist voting for it, it's such a good time

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:07 (six years ago) link

honestly surprised Mind Games placed so high. love it though

flappy bird, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:09 (six years ago) link

no love for Bring on the Lucie??

flappy bird, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:09 (six years ago) link

I voted for it

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:12 (six years ago) link

Mind Games is the only album from which I drew nothing. What a nattering, unfocused, dull album.

morning wood truancy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:13 (six years ago) link

"bring on the lucie" is ok

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:14 (six years ago) link

xp aw I like the title track, appropriately anthemic

sleeve, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:15 (six years ago) link

i've got a bad memory associated with "mind games" so i didn't vote for it myself

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:16 (six years ago) link

ATMP the track is so gorgeous, was my #6

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:19 (six years ago) link

Mind Games is def unfocused and limp-sounding

voted for watching the wheels very highly, even tho i don't like the studio version.

the acoustic version, though...

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:23 (six years ago) link

what a long paulless stretch

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:26 (six years ago) link

"photograph" too low

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:26 (six years ago) link

yea the acoustic version of Watching the Wheels is one of John's highest points

flappy bird, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:28 (six years ago) link

acoustic version of Starting Over is ace, too

Darin, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:36 (six years ago) link

The different lyrics always put me off. Also, it’s missing the greatest double-tracked vocal of all time.

#9 Dream is gonna place way too fucking high

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:40 (six years ago) link

oh god yeah

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:41 (six years ago) link

bobby keys' solo on photograph is some of his best ever work.

true, also that great descending piano riff

flappy bird, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:47 (six years ago) link

idk after hearing the acoustic version, the studio version always sounds overdone to me.

i like the lyrics better in the acoustic version too

808s & Deep States (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:49 (six years ago) link

it's very thin sounding

flappy bird, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 18:49 (six years ago) link

I feel like post-Voorman John's stuff is often lacking in the low end/bass dept.

aaaaaaaaaa COMING UP

flamenco blorf (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:26 (six years ago) link

this placing so high is one of those only-on-ILM idiosyncrasies, I would think. Like, nowhere else in the internet or the world would this spring to mind as people's favorite Macca song.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link

canceled out of course by the massive lol of discovering that after all that, turrican didn't vote.

Indeed, and I've already explained one reason why this was the case - you might have been willing to cobble together a ballot at the last nanosecond with whatever, but I wasn't. Another reason is that, well, for some of us, putting together a list of 100 Beatles solo songs isn't actually number one on their list of priorities. I would have loved to have submitted a ballot, but I didn't - and if that's your idea of humour then fucking hell, get out more.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 June 2018 19:30 (six years ago) link

"Coming Up" nowhere near my list. I didn't know deejays flipped the single over and made the live version the hit; I thought it was always so.
