I used a load of different albums to put together compilations on spotify, making my weekly look a bit strange. Top Gear?

The three founders of music recommendation site Last.fm, Martin Stiksel, Felix Miller and Richard Jones, are to leave the firm later this year.

Two years after the site was bought by US media giant CBS and seven years since once of the UK's most successful web 2.0 start-ups launched, all three are to leave Last.fm to concentrate on new projects. The company is to remain at its base in east London.

Try as I might, I can't see that three-founders-leave thing as anything other than a worrying development.

Your musical compatibility with Gaughin is Low

Music you have in common includes The Hold Steady, The Flaming Lips, Love, Super Furry Animals and Vampire Weekend.

i see youve played the shit out of nickel creek's "spit on a stranger" but no pavement plays...need to rectify the situation immediately imo

maybe the 3 of them agreed at the takeover they would only stay on for a few years.

none of my top tracks/artists are showing up, my play count is intact though. checking random ilxors and overall it seems to be a sitewide issue.

So. The crappy Last.fm client has started scrobbling all my iPhone scrobbles twice. There are complaints about this all over the site, but nothing even approaching an acknowledgement.

Given that the only thing I ever really use it for is being anal about my listening habits -- and iTunes covers that reasonably well -- what, exactly, am I wasting my time for? Ach, time to throw off the chains, I think.

HOLY SHIT that feels liberating. Bye, thread!

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Saturday, 27 June 2009 17:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Tell you what, though. It's weird listening to music without wondering whether it's being scrobbled properly/duplicated/mistagged/etc. After, what, two and a half years of obsessive Last.fm-ing, it's a bit like listening to music in the nude.

That's got nothing to do with MJ; it's just because I deleted my account :)

Can someone explain why New Order is always at the top of the ILX list?

Mordy, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Because, despite those last two albums, they absolutely fucking rule?

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:24 (fourteen years ago) link

ilx is indie + old.

the shock will be coupled with the need to dance (jim), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:27 (fourteen years ago) link

In all seriousness, that's exactly it: if there's one band to which a sizeable core of ILX0rs is going to return again and again, it doesn't surprise me at all that New Order are it.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:30 (fourteen years ago) link

but the ilx indie have to pretend they dance rather than rock
xp

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:31 (fourteen years ago) link

otherwise they be "corny"

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:31 (fourteen years ago) link

weekly charts are not immensely informative; 80 play counts for one artist = 8 out of 679 people listened to the same album last week

winston, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:32 (fourteen years ago) link

by =, i mean "roughly equivalent to"

winston, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeh, exactly: it's a tiny sample and the results are pretty much meaningless.

a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 June 2009 22:52 (fourteen years ago) link

80 play counts for an artist means 80 individuals listened to at least 1 track by that artist
