the hard-panned everything-in-one-channel and the vocals+guitars in the other is just egregiously bad. idk how anyone can stand it, it's like trying to hear the album through a paper bag filled with mud. And the much later "remix" is just brickwalled to shit to compensate, and still doesn't work.

this is an interesting comparison for the poll we did a few years back:
Acclaimed Music Top 25 Albums from 1973 poll
only two in our Top 5 made it to your list:
2 42 Stevie Wonder - Innervisions 1412 335 John Cale - Paris 1919 91 21 Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon 614 398 Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets 624 583 Can - Future Days 5
voting for the Dan, man.
― Bee OK, Friday, 25 January 2019 02:04 (five years ago) link
For me, it’s between the Dan, the Can and Funkadelic.

I love how I have a list of nearly 50 albums yet others post ones I forgot about or haven't heard yet but might love. What a great year.Still, even with all these old classic years I still usually find 50 albums a year I love up to 2018. Hope that continues.

Solid Air for me. Running Marley, Sabbath and Herbie (Sextant) pretty close. Would have considered Paris 1919 if it was there.
Others (Christ, what a year):
Larry Young - Lawrence of NewarkRahsaan - Prepare Thyself to Deal With a MiracleWeather Report - SweetnighterEddie Henderson - RealizationMichael White - The Land of Spirit and Light

That reminds me, Larry Young plays on Carlos Santana & John McLaughlin - Love Peace Surrender, also 1973.

For my year: Don't Break the Oath, Purple Rain, Climate of Hunter, Treasure... I feel like there are hundreds of interesting albums from that year that I haven't explored yet.
― jmm
i can't vote on '73 - these trails, "lark" by linda lewis, itsuroh shimoda's "love songs & lamentations"... no, early '70s and late '70s are prime time for me.
i have an easier time of it since '76 wasn't really an album year. there are some weird cult records i love, but for top record? nah nothing comes close to van der graaf generator's "still life"

i went for the roxy album. but my fave albums of 1973 are missing here. first and foremost "dark side of the moon", the one pink floyd album i would keep. the "selling england by the pound" which was my fave genesis album in my teenage years. brian eno's "here come the warm jets", an amazing stroke of genius, never has pop music been so exciting. litle feat's "dixie chicken", i have always loved their hot mix of rock, blues & folk. then their was john cale's impressionist master piece "paris 1919". not to forget neil young's live "time fades away", my favourite concert album by good old neil, it seriously kicks ass.

My daughter was looking at year-by-year playlists and asked, "Is this really a song from the year you were born?"
And then she played Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer".

Tried to reply to this a couple of nights ago but my keyboard was acting weird. Was The Sting that year? Cos i think that's one of the main musical themes in that isn't it?I think we got a best of Scott Joplin record sometime around then and i think it was something that was being played around to some extent. So you'd be hearing it, which might mean even more than in his actual heyday.

This one was difficult, but eventually it came down to Cosmic Slop vs Innervisions, and I went with Funkadelic.
