Ha, just realised I voted for #1 and #77, very pleasing.
Snap!

I could easily have voted for many things on your ballot, actually.

And yet the algorithm sez you are not my nearest neighbour *shrug emoji*

What did I know, what did I know

Nabozo:

Fuxxor Quotient = the proportion of tracks on your ballot that were in Pitchfork's top 100. I believe the term derives from 'corny indie fuXXor', which is a very old ILM in-joke / term of abuse / badge of honour. (Search old threads for 'corny indie' for examples.)

Antifuxxor Ratio = your ILM Hivemind score divided by your Fuxxor Quotient. A high ratio means your taste is much closer to that of ILM than to that of Pitchfork. Infinite antifuxxor ratio = supposedly a good thing.

Blood Sausage Index = The average points total for tracks that didn't appear on the most well known online/critics' EOY lists. Essentially, whether you love songs that nobody outside of ILM cares or knows about. I can't remember why 'blood sausage' though.

Late to discussion re appeal of "Itgehane": I agree with characterizations such as "extremely warm and feel-good", "beautiful sparkling construction" etc, BUT would add that as well as being top bobbins it also works p well as an actual words-and-tune song. (The Orielles cover really brought this out for me.) This most likely broadened its appeal even more, I'd guess.

Re: the Burna bloodbath: not surprised by the vote splitting, but the dismal showing of “Ye” is kind of shocking nonetheless. It does bode extremely well for the album poll though. Looks like we have at least 8 people who have Outside very high on their ballot.

Actually it was interesting to run through the list and think about which other languages were represented. I miss, but am too lazy to reproduce, lex's geographic breakdown that he'd always have ready right at the end

I’m late to this thread, so I saw this post only now, but you're in luck: I posted a country breakdown in the rollout thread yesterday. Here it is, in a slightly tweaked version (cheers, Tuomas!):

I know you’ve all been waiting for this one, a valuable tradition started (afaik) by Lex, here it is, beter late than never...

YOUR *UPDATED* OFFICIAL COUNTRY BREAKDOWN:

AUSTRALIA (4): Hatchie, The Chats, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Laura Jean
CANADA (3): Marie Davidson, Peach, Drake
COLOMBIA (5⁄6): [Cardi B ft. Bad Bunny &] J Balvin (⅓), Kali Uchis (½)
DENMARK (1): Kasper Marott
FRANCE (1½): Christine and the Queens [ft. Dâm-Funk] (1½)
GERMANY (4⅓): Die Wilde Jagd, [Talaboman/] Superpitcher (⅓), Kim Petras, DJ Koze, Helena Hauff
HONDURAS (½): Empress Of (½)
IRELAND (2): Krystal Klear, Roísín Murphy
ITALY (1): Donato Dozzy
JAPAN (1): Mitski (2 x ½)
NEW ZEALAND (2): The Beths (2)
NIGERIA (1): Starboy ft. Wizkid, Terri, Spotless & Ceeza Milli
PUERTO RICO (⅓): [Cardi B ft.] Bad Bunny [& J Balvin] (⅓)
SOUTH AFRICA (3): Simmy (ft. Sun-El Musician) (2); Prince Kaybee ft. Busiswa & TNS
SOUTH KOREA (2): Peggy Gou, Red Velvet
SPAIN (2⅓): Rosalía (2), Talaboman [/Superpitcher] (⅓)
SWEDEN (1⅓): Robyn, Talaboman [/Superpitcher] (⅓)
UK (13): The 1975 (4), Ella Mai, Jessie Ware, Kero Kero Bonito, Tirzah, Tracey Thorn, Let’s Eat Grandma, Autechre, Jon Hopkins, Fabiana Palladino
USA (32 5⁄6): Lana Del Rey (2); Ariana Grande (2), Janelle Monáe, Mitski (2 x ½), Kacey Musgraves (2); Sheck Wes, Julia Holter, Pusha T, Empress Of (½), Eris Drew, Rae Sremmurd ft. Juicy J, [Christine and the Queens ft.] Dâm-Funk (½), Lizzo, Octo Octa, Khalid ft. 6LACK & Ty Dolla $ign, Valee ft. Jeremih, Doja Cat, Beach House, MGMT (2), Mr. Twin Sister (2); Natalie Prass, Hop Along, Cardi B [ft. Bad Bunny & J Balvin] (⅓), mewithoutyou, Toni Braxton, Soccer Mommy, Ravyn Lenae, Parquet Courts, Andrew W.K., Kali Uchis (½)

Of course, Drake cheated by crediting neither Big Freedia, nor 5th Ward Weebie, nor Lauryn Hill, and DJ Koze would have done well to credit Gladys Knight - but then again, US artists are overrepresented anyway \_(ツ)_/¯

Please report any mistakes or oversights to me, so I can do the whole damn thing over again. Thank U, next!

I don't think I've voted for it. I only vote for real music on the albums poll, the singles here are just for kicks.

Spoilers: the albums poll has way more genre variety than the singles one and ilm delivers better results than most eoy lists

You're preaching to the choir :) I think that self-congratulation is probably exactly what gives us 1975 feasts though :P

Nabozo, Sunday, 3 February 2019 09:58 (five years ago) link

this year's tracks poll just felt like there was barely any consensus at all so it was mostly just established ILM favourites doing well by default? at least compared to say the last two years which felt a little more unpredictable over the first few days

ufo, Sunday, 3 February 2019 10:03 (five years ago) link

The albums poll is where it's at, though I'm pretty sure not a single one of my classical noms will place. Not that I did much in the way of campaigning, mind you.

pomenitul, Sunday, 3 February 2019 10:03 (five years ago) link

My focus is totally on singles/individual tracks. Every year, there are at the very least 50 tracks that I could put on my tracks ballot with good conscience. Whereas with albums, there are only about a dozen that I’ve lived with enough throughout the year to confidently place them. This is purely a matter of priorities and time management. There’s many more albums that I know I like because I’ve listened to them once or twice (and I do fill up the rest of my ballot with those), or would/could like if I’d only make time for them, but first things first, you know, and the genres I (want and need to) listen to the most are heavily singles-focussed.

breastcrawl, Sunday, 3 February 2019 11:23 (five years ago) link

Amen.
