weird! feels a bit long to really work as an opener like that
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:23 (four years ago) link
matty...........
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:45 (four years ago) link
You heard it from them first: blowjobs are tired, civil disobedience to combat climate change is wired
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:47 (four years ago) link
the worst thing about this band is their love for having a minimum of a month's build-up to a lead single
― ufo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 23:58 (four years ago) link
So the preview for this album is up on Apple Music and it’s 22 songs long
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 25 July 2019 03:31 (four years ago) link
release date is 21 February :/
― ufo, Thursday, 25 July 2019 03:39 (four years ago) link
I'm listening to a 1975 song on Spotify, and the "canvas" video for it is an ad for "People". First time I've ever seen a band use that feature as an advertisement.
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 25 July 2019 04:33 (four years ago) link
Lol at the self-titled track. As if a 1975 album called 'Notes on a Conditional Form' wasn't already shaping up to be the most pretentious album of all time.
― Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 04:52 (four years ago) link
Honestly, I was with it until that very last corny sentence. I understand why people would be repelled by this, but at the same time: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/597kpd/new-report-suggests-high-likelihood-of-human-civilization-coming-to-an-end-in-2050
― josh winters (josh), Thursday, 25 July 2019 05:36 (four years ago) link
keyboard plinks in the background sound like actress - jardin lol
― J. Sam, Thursday, 25 July 2019 06:00 (four years ago) link
the sentiment of it is fine i just don't think '5 minute spoken word' is going to be a good way to open the album and that there's surely better ways to integrate that sort of message into the album
― ufo, Thursday, 25 July 2019 10:14 (four years ago) link
its a great way to open the album!
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 14:41 (four years ago) link
its art man you're not building a table
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 14:42 (four years ago) link
it's a great way to open the album insofar as you can always just start with track 2
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:00 (four years ago) link
i find it pretty pleasant to listen to, tbh...v sci fi vibe. like an entry from the diary of princess irulan
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:16 (four years ago) link
the instrumental track is kinda cool but so is the track for "The Man Who Married a Robot" and I still skip it
― Vinnie, Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:25 (four years ago) link
it's not to say that this kind of track can't work. I like VU's "The Gift" and that's 8 minutes long. maybe something about the vocals being too upfront in the 1975 tracks
― Vinnie, Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:26 (four years ago) link
deej otm
― k3vin k., Thursday, 25 July 2019 15:44 (four years ago) link
i listened once, that should do it.
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 25 July 2019 16:01 (four years ago) link
I like to think of it as the logical endpoint of a pop idea that started with Beyonce’s “Flawless”.
― Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 21:33 (four years ago) link
in that "flawless" is about waking up and this song puts you to sleep?
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:01 (four years ago) link
They should have gotten Baz Luhrmann instead.
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 25 July 2019 22:14 (four years ago) link
lol I think if you said to Matt "congratulations on making a sequel to The Sunscreen Song" he would probably kill himself.
― Tim F, Thursday, 25 July 2019 23:20 (four years ago) link
looking forward to the version on the next album where the speech is autotuned or something
― ufo, Friday, 26 July 2019 02:23 (four years ago) link
all the s/t intro tracks are p terrible imo, so im not putting much stock in this. i didn’t like the spoken word track on the previous album either tho so hopefully that’s the extent of it
― flopson, Saturday, 27 July 2019 05:23 (four years ago) link
i thought it was fine on ILIWYS but otherwise completely skippable

video's gone, which track?
― ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 01:06 (four years ago) link

oh wow that's a lot better than the album version
― ufo, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 02:14 (four years ago) link
they were so good when i saw them a month ago that i'm actually thinking travelling from lisbon to paris in november just to see them again at pitchfork music festival.

they've gone Manson!
― Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:39 (four years ago) link
i think the video really sells the song
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:41 (four years ago) link
unrelated but the official 11M-view video for Give Yourself A Try has changed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUzBfBqbSmc
― alpine static, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:46 (four years ago) link
I have not watched the video. I did listen to the song via Spotify, by queuing up and listening to the "The 1975" intro track first, which I recommend.
― MarkoP, Thursday, 22 August 2019 18:47 (four years ago) link
i was not expecting this. still processing. but i was hoping this would finally be their 'music for cars' album. i was wrong.
― Nourry, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:22 (four years ago) link
i don't think their singles portend anything about the subsequent albums honestly
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:23 (four years ago) link
yeah there's literally still another 20 songs to go supposedly
― Simon H., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:24 (four years ago) link
that's true.
― Nourry, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:27 (four years ago) link
Um. I can imagine that song being fun live, minus some of the more annoying effects, and I can also imagine the song is no more indicative of the album than "Song 2" was. But. Um. Yeah, no thanks. Reminds of the Vines or something.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:31 (four years ago) link
this is the best fucking band of all time
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:32 (four years ago) link
it made me think of battles
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 22 August 2019 19:33 (four years ago) link
oh man i dont like this at all.
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:10 (four years ago) link
why are they trying to sound like jet?
― big city slam (Spottie), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:11 (four years ago) link
someone else compared it to refused and i think it’s somewhere between that and “song 2.” it extremely rules imo but i get why this would be radioactive to others
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:47 (four years ago) link
vocals kinda remind me of glassjaw
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, 22 August 2019 20:54 (four years ago) link
not really into this, probably the first time the idea that this band can do pretty much anything hasn't worked out for me
― ufo, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:00 (four years ago) link
This sounds like Refused covering a Queens of the Stone Age song, which... I guess it could be worse as someone who grew up on Refused, QOTSA, Manson and "Song 2" — but not too long ago, Matty talking about this being their nighttime album, inspired by Burial and The Streets, stuff like that... so who really knows anything anymore?
― ilxor, Thursday, 22 August 2019 23:01 (four years ago) link
Sounds like XTRMNTR era PRML SCRM to me.
