I never checked out Destroyer (lumped them in with other indie bands I don’t care for like... Spoon lol) but this Bay of Pigs track is quite good.

wld've been in my top 10 if i'd voted

still kicking myself for not nominating ghosts for the album poll

lowercase (eric), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:04 (four years ago) link

gyac, what kind of retreat was that?! Stereophonics and water rationing sounds bleak.

A Catholic one

gyac, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:05 (four years ago) link

went for push the button to my brothers aghast - this is a tune tho

nxd, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:05 (four years ago) link

My sister went on one of these catholic retreats and the song was Scar Tissue

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:06 (four years ago) link

Wow, I've never heard Overload. Really catchy.

jmm, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:07 (four years ago) link

*"overload" wld've etc

Probably considered too spicy for a load of teenage girls. There was some other song that got played but it wasn’t one that featured in this poll either.

gyac, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:08 (four years ago) link

Voted sugababes partly cos it's a great song and partly cos when they happened to come in the shop I was working in they refused to sign any copies of their album because the picture of them on the cover " didn't do them justice" which as excuses go is p good.

oscar bravo, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:09 (four years ago) link

I was the #1 for "You! Me! Dancing!." Soundtrack for a birthday party my class threw me last year (unlisted setting).

― clemenza, Monday, October 14, 2019 4:03 PM (five minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

What a loveable bunch!

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:10 (four years ago) link

Overload is class but again I hope it’s not the only one of theirs that features 🙃

gyac, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:10 (four years ago) link

i think i speak for us all when i say that i am dead at clemenza's video/explanation

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:13 (four years ago) link

also we need to find a way for gareth campesinos to see that

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:13 (four years ago) link

That video is wonderful! I would watch a full 8-hour documentary of that.

tangenttangent, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:14 (four years ago) link

I was gonna vote Push the Button cos it's pretty unique but changed back to Overload final draft cos what a debut single and what an attitude it exudes

or something, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:15 (four years ago) link

also I too love Overload and it was a very late cut for me, glad it made it nonetheless

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:16 (four years ago) link

omg, clemenza's class! That is the sweetest video.

had emily at no. 3, was first newsom i ever heard. one of the incredible first listens of my life

devvvine, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:21 (four years ago) link

good to know this poll's credibility is assured

frame casual (dog latin), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link

I didn't vote for any Newsom but Ys made a big impression on me at the time and if I was going to pick a standout track 'Emily' would be it.

Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:23 (four years ago) link

omg, clemenza's class! That is the sweetest video.

OTM.

And I'm listening on free Spotify so I'll make allowances but omg the sound of "Cry Me a River" is not holding up.

All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:29 (four years ago) link

man does this song take me back to college

frogbs, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

Little Miss Sunshine may have ruined this for me.

jmm, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

Huh I've heard all of #100-94 and then none of the next six save JT. Welp, my work playlist for tomorrow is sorted

Vinnie, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:32 (four years ago) link

IMO "Chicago" loses a lot of its impact when listened outside the context of the album. On it's own it kinda sounds like it's trying too hard for a big, sweeping sound, but within Illinois, everything else has been building up to it.

icy bike chain rain (zchyrs), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:38 (four years ago) link

I am thinking to post another 1 now, and 5 later. Does that sound acceptable?

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:44 (four years ago) link

More pls

gyac, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:45 (four years ago) link

its neat that a concept album about the state of Illinois saves its biggest punch for that song, I thought that was really cool

frogbs, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:45 (four years ago) link

I have images down to 83. Shall I just go to there and see what we can cook up later? In case we have a busy day later in the week it might be good to go as far as possible...

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:47 (four years ago) link

sounds good lj

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:47 (four years ago) link

I vote for not rushing it.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:48 (four years ago) link

btw tt can you check your fb messages please?

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Monday, 14 October 2019 14:50 (four years ago) link

I voted for Chicago. Soaring strings and singing about mistakes is a winning formula. The notion of being in love with the illusion of somewhere based on the emotional connections enjoyed there always seemed so romantic and amazing to me when I would hear this whilst unpacking 60 crates of Christmas books.

Will check, Neechy!

tangenttangent, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:52 (four years ago) link

Okay. This next one has the highest enthusiasm score in the entire rollout. Few of you voted for this, but those who did, you LOVED it

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:57 (four years ago) link

Maybe even still do!

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 14:58 (four years ago) link

xps My boy was born to Push the Button. Like a total ponce, I'd taken Eno and SoTL with me but in the madness 'what music?!' was waaaay down the list. The registrar chose - by default - and it was so fucking perfect I'm tearing up thinking about it.

And Clemenza, good to be reminded it's the best job in the world. That video is awesome.

Oh, this one! If I'd remembered how great it was I'd have given it a vote.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:07 (four years ago) link

Oh yeah, Pow! Extremely good, should probably have voted

Frederik B, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:07 (four years ago) link

Still hope to see another track which samples Pow! place.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:10 (four years ago) link

this is well good yeah

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:10 (four years ago) link

Voted 'pow' too. Great tune. Mad at myself for not him nominating kano's "reload it" which gets me almost as amped as ' pow' does and I am not a person prone to ampage.

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:29 (four years ago) link

Dan Worsley, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:31 (four years ago) link

This is a very fitting tie in that I love them both and didnt vote for either
