Oh, the Johnny Boy is from the Y2K of our Lord +6

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:29 (four years ago) link

Yay, Johnny Boy. Love it so much and came close to being my #1.

Dan Worsley, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:31 (four years ago) link

This is a very fitting tie in that I love them both and didnt vote for either

or something, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:34 (four years ago) link

Think I put La Ritournelle at #3, such a stunningly beautiful piece of music

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:39 (four years ago) link

Johnny Boy song is good, but the song title is so twee that I remember it as worse than it is lol

La Ritournelle is one of my many regrets, I blame the fact that I mostly looked through old playlists for my inspiration and that was a later discovery for me

flopsy bird (voodoo chili), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:41 (four years ago) link

i think it's fair to say that we should feel relieved about anything that made it into the poll - the competition being so intense

enjoying the tellier!

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:42 (four years ago) link

there is going to be 1 more track then a big old break for arguments, cheers, naysaying and such

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:44 (four years ago) link

no, don't it that way! but thanks for doing it all the same! (though nothing really matters)

etc

It is my great honor to post on this messageboard! (Karl Malone), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:48 (four years ago) link

real internet voice: this is awesome imago! for real, thanks for doing it, really looking forward to the rest of the rollout. love the images t_t!

83. Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl - 507 points - 8 votes - 0 FPVs - Y2K+2

over the choobwaves

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:54 (four years ago) link

also genuinely anthemic

american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 14 October 2019 15:55 (four years ago) link

dream about meeeeee

nxd, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:57 (four years ago) link

Yeah, my corny ass voted for this.

Simon H., Monday, 14 October 2019 15:58 (four years ago) link

I don't know if that's the first two-time producer or not: "Anthems" and "You! Me! Dancing!" are both Toronto's Dave Newfeld.

clemenza, Monday, 14 October 2019 15:59 (four years ago) link

Is a corny ass vote similar to a butt dial?

xp

(can't you come back?)

Life is a meaningless nightmare of suffering...save string (Chinaski), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:00 (four years ago) link

I don't know a lot of these. I was into Broken Social Scene but have never heard of this song.

frame casual (dog latin), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:04 (four years ago) link

wow i admit that i don't know a lot of these, but based on some cursory listening there's a reason why i retreated into noise and techno for much of the decade— a lot of stuff that sounds very meh to me.

blue light or electric light (the table is the table), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:05 (four years ago) link

like that Los Campesinos track is the sort of thing i'd genuinely like, and then the bells come in and i need to turn it off.

blue light or electric light (the table is the table), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:07 (four years ago) link

Substitute 'classical' for 'noise and techno' and we're on the same wavelength.

pomenitul, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:08 (four years ago) link

La Ritournelle is lovely though

frame casual (dog latin), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:09 (four years ago) link

oh god yeah i do know this BSS song... Or is it because it reminds me of something else?

frame casual (dog latin), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:10 (four years ago) link

Subsitute sausage rolls

saer, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:10 (four years ago) link

oops wrong message board

saer, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:11 (four years ago) link

you're in charge for the next few hours, boss

imago, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:12 (four years ago) link

and yet

xp

nashwan, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:12 (four years ago) link

Sausage rolls are a waste of sausage imho.

pomenitul, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:15 (four years ago) link

I don't know a lot of these. I was into Broken Social Scene but have never heard of this song.

this tells me that you have not heard the only great BSS album

Simon H., Monday, 14 October 2019 16:15 (four years ago) link

I’m loving the rollout so far but feel like my favorite songs of the decade will all be in the bottom 50 if they appear at all.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:18 (four years ago) link

None of mine have showed up so far but I'm sure that's because everyone else has voted correctly and my votes will all show up in the top 50

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:22 (four years ago) link

Yeah, my corny ass voted for this.

― Simon H., Monday, October 14, 2019 11:58 AM (twenty-one minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

so so same. first of my list to place I think.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:23 (four years ago) link

The only two songs I hadn’t head before is Overload and Pow. I did not expect the Sugababes one to sound like this, reminds me of Beck. I like this.

I don’t know about Lethal Bizzle, I never quite got into grime and I’m definitely not starting in my mid 30’s.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:26 (four years ago) link

Kinda worried that hip-hop is gonna get the shaft in this here poll (bluntly titled track #100 aside)

flopsy bird (voodoo chili), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:30 (four years ago) link

Of course not. UGK, Clipse, Outkast, Kanye, T.I., Nas, Jay Z and even Eminem have a chance of making it over Dead Prez.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:33 (four years ago) link

Love a lot of the other big Grime staples but 'Pow' never did it for me compared to numerous Ruff Sqwad and Rolldeep and co. efforts plus hits like More Fire Crew's 'Oi'.

nashwan, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:33 (four years ago) link

Sausage rolls are a waste of sausage imho.

Go to the ginger pig and say that.

gyac, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:36 (four years ago) link

I'll keep that in mind.

pomenitul, Monday, 14 October 2019 16:39 (four years ago) link

It only took 13 years but I finally listened to the Johnny Boy track with the funny title. It's pretty good!

honestly had similar reaction. i thought he was precious bullshit when i was 19, can't really understand how anyone could like that dreck.

blue light or electric light (the table is the table), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:55 (four years ago) link

I liked a lot of precious bullshit music in the 2000s but never bothered with Sufjan

frame casual (dog latin), Monday, 14 October 2019 17:00 (four years ago) link

Sufjan is definitely precious bullshit, but he's precious bullshit with good melodies and fun arrangements

icy bike chain rain (zchyrs), Monday, 14 October 2019 17:03 (four years ago) link

I didn't vote for any of his tracks though

icy bike chain rain (zchyrs), Monday, 14 October 2019 17:04 (four years ago) link

Of course not. UGK, Clipse, Outkast, Kanye, T.I., Nas, Jay Z and even Eminem have a chance of making it over Dead Prez.

― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 14 October 2019 16:33 (thirty-six minutes ago) link

i didn't literally mean that no more rap songs would place in this poll

flopsy bird (voodoo chili), Monday, 14 October 2019 17:10 (four years ago) link

2010s Sufjan >>>> 2000s Sufjan

Dan Worsley, Monday, 14 October 2019 17:13 (four years ago) link

I didn’t care for the Sufjan tracks that got nominated and I find the song Chicago slightly obnoxious - safe from the verses. The album itself is also disappointingly his more celebrated one from the 00’s when Seven Swans is where it’s at.

I would’ve easily voted for songs like: “for the widows in paradise...”, “all the trees in the field...”, “the dress looks nice on you”, “to be alone with you”, “in the devil’s territory”, “sister” or “a good man is hard to find”.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 14 October 2019 17:19 (four years ago) link

I loved Broken Social Scene but never really saw 'Anthems...' as a standout track, I mean I get why people like it (I think) but it just doesn't do much for me. In the end I voted for two tracks involving BSS members but nothing actually by them - '7/4 (Shoreline)' nearly made the cut.

Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 14 October 2019 17:19 (four years ago) link

7/4 shoreline is still my fav BSS song too.

i voted for sufjan in the albums poll, but not for illinoise
