Just realized that is Titonton Duvante's RA Podcast. Also just realized Titonton did an RA podcast and I'd missed it!

I needed an ambient album for this year and the Zachary Paul might just be the thing. Cheers. (The Kali Malone album I've tried three times and it's just a bit dull.)

Happy to hear it! And I'm totally with you on the Kali Malone, I have no idea why it clicked for so many people.

I do enjoy the immersive nature of Kali Malone's album, though I can def understand it being a bit dull (personally I think dull doesn't have to mean 'not good'). But that Zachary Paul album sounds good, will check it out!

I'll try if I can squeeze in some nominations tomorrow.

updated the spotify tracks list to the best of my ability despite limited time. A couple of tracks here and there could not be found (and also all of saer's). If your nominated tracks aren't on the list but can be found on spotify, please add them.

silverfish, Thursday, 2 January 2020 22:18 (four years ago) link

Agreed on the 'dull not equalling bad' thing. The Kali album is just a bit flat and texturally and thematically uninteresting.

On another note, would also recommend (vocal tracks aside) the Erik Truffaz album.

(I really appreciate that the “Deluxe” version of the Frozen II soundtrack was chosen for the Albums playlist... I didn’t want to ask for that and be a pain, but it was my preference! 👍)

Updated the albums playlist to ^here^. Hopefully didn't miss anything. Stuff from recent days that didn't seem to be available (at that instant, from my location) : https://pastebin.com/0emHme6Z (so if you know better, etc, etc...)

Just realised that the Tresor album hasn’t been nominated (FYI it is amazing, “Sondela” may not even be the best track, my favourite is probably the Lindsey Buckingham makes highlife eighties disco of “Aphrodite”), so:

ALBUM:

Tresor - Nostalgia

updated the spotify tracks list to the best of my ability despite limited time. A couple of tracks here and there could not be found (and also all of saer's).

This is very sad news. Like everyone else I had heard the rumours about what was happening at Spotify but I had no idea the situation had got this out of hand.

Btw, thanks for nominating the Tóc Tiên emil.y, that was me posting it, definitely a banger, probably my favourite this year. Nice to know it'll get another vote.

I'm pretty sure 'Work It' made last year's list, but I haven't heard the soulwax version so I dunno if it's notably different.

― emil.y, Tuesday, 31 December 2019 17:37 (three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

Hmm...I don't think we've had this before. My instinct is to disqualify - almost our only strict eligibility rule is that if an album/track makes the Top 77 in one year it can't be nominated in following years, and our treatment of remixes supports treating them as "the same" as the originals. Unless there's some mitigating factor?

― britain's secret sauce (seandalai), 31. joulukuuta 2019 19:43 bookmarkflaglink

Disqualifying remixes on this basis would be ridiculous, since they're often released a long time after the remixed track. I and someone else nominated a couple of remixes of tracks from Deena Abdelwahed's 2018 album, since the remixes came out in 2019. If I really like those remixes and consider them to be among the best tracks of 2019, what should I do? Travel back in time to January 2019 (when they hadn't come out yet) and nominate them for the 2018 poll?

Then again, the rule of collating votes for a tune and its remixes has always been ridiculous too, because A) the remix is often a very different entity, and B) it allows some songs to artificially rise up the chart, as in theory it can get twice as much votes on the basis of counting the remix votes for the original song.

Don't get too caught up in things like years and titles. None of my nominations even exist, or maybe they do. Its all cheese on toast and a beer with the postman and no one ever asks him "just what is in those letters?"
