no voting for me this year, haven't listened to enough and while i have some faves, i'll try to shout em out if they make the list/complain if they don't! looking forward to it!

I’ve seen the results and working on the graphics atm. Let me say: I don’t know if the main voters for this year changed or we had more or less voters than last year but the results are crazy. I’m willing to give 100 US dollars to anyone who guess the top 10 tracks. Hell, they’re so crazy I’m willing to give $1000 if anyone gets them right regardless of ranking.

I think this is the second time I’ve bothered to vote and the first I submitted a singles ballot, so blame me when everything gets weird?

Here for weird.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 January 2020 05:52 (four years ago) link

This is first year afaik that I actually put more effort into my albums ballot than my tracks ballot (I didn't even go the full 25), mainly because I wasn't as dialed into individual songs that came and went in 2019, so I really have NO IDEA what the results will look like. I voted for Old Town Road, though, lol.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 26 January 2020 05:54 (four years ago) link

yeah I was trying to think of what might win tracks...my guess would be Old Town Road, Cellophane, Gone or...Don’t Start Now? But I don’t know if any of those really had overwhelming, galvanised support on here

monotony, Sunday, 26 January 2020 06:02 (four years ago) link

Don't Start Now was my #2, but it had such a late release I'm not sure everyone listened to it 400 times like I did.

BALLOON PLZ

Tim F, Sunday, 26 January 2020 06:10 (four years ago) link

What are the numbers like this year? I was assuming they'd be down because of UK/US despair and hopelessness, but I don't know if that's at all true outside my own mind...

emil.y, Sunday, 26 January 2020 06:12 (four years ago) link

glad to hear some unexpected things may have reached the top 10 -- that's usually the most predictable part!

Old Town Road, Cellophane, Gone or...Don’t Start Now?

i would like to think these are all too obvious to have done that well if the results are a bit unexpected. (i kinda hope so, anyway -- tho i did vote for two of them.)

i guess i suppose "don't start now" will do well. its appeal really seems to be quite broad here.

Disco homage from a hip 20-something woman? It's like ILM microtargeting.

pretty much!

oh ffs, just realised in my panic to get a ballot in yesterday AM I chopped the Judgitzu track off the top of my tracks list, wah! ;(((

bingo dabber acid, Sunday, 26 January 2020 11:56 (four years ago) link

numbers are slightly down on last year but we're still over 100 ballots in each poll

i listened to the kölsch mix/album octobeard mentioned -- quite impressive and detailed work

This is the decade of the track I can feel it

nashwan, Sunday, 26 January 2020 17:16 (four years ago) link

having seen the results across the board, "weird" is very accurate; we're gonna be utterly unique in our end of year results as compared to any other best of lists.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 26 January 2020 17:28 (four years ago) link

You love to see it

opden gnash (imago), Sunday, 26 January 2020 17:33 (four years ago) link

I hope others voted for the William Doyle album. I forgot and it's really good!

Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Sunday, 26 January 2020 19:22 (four years ago) link

Yeah, I also check out the Kölsch mix/album, reminded me of something like a Global Underground trance mix from the early 00s. Even the flightpath cover. That said, it's breezed by and was nice to work to this afternoon.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 26 January 2020 20:26 (four years ago) link

always!

flopson, Sunday, 26 January 2020 22:20 (four years ago) link

if anything i would have expected the results this year to be a little closer to the broader critical consensus than usual, as this year's critical consensus seemed particularly ilm-friendly

ufo, Sunday, 26 January 2020 23:26 (four years ago) link

didn’t know mix cds were allowed, seems kinda quaint in 2020

brimstead, Sunday, 26 January 2020 23:34 (four years ago) link

I guess I voted for a live mix but it’s all new songs by the same artist, whatever carry on

brimstead, Sunday, 26 January 2020 23:35 (four years ago) link

These threads are roughly 1000x more interesting to me than whatever happens at the Grammies.

Lactose Shaolin Wanker (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 26 January 2020 23:37 (four years ago) link

I think I naively assumed there were *generally* more track ballots than album ballots. (Likely because that's most often the case for individual artist polls.) I've learned something from the pretty graph.

Is the decline in the total ballots since 2013 vaguely in proportion to a decline in total unique posters over that period or something?

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Sunday, 26 January 2020 23:54 (four years ago) link

My tracks ballot is bonkers. Glad to see the rollout will be probably in a similar vein.

octobeard, Monday, 27 January 2020 06:50 (four years ago) link

77-61: oh cool so glad this made it, what a nice discovery

60-41: ah here are some things I voted for. TOO LOW

40-21: fuck you for liking this garbage

20-1: undeniable bangers

opden gnash (imago), Monday, 27 January 2020 07:14 (four years ago) link

60-41: ah my thing really didn't make it this year huh

abcfsk, Monday, 27 January 2020 07:23 (four years ago) link

opden gnash (imago), Monday, 27 January 2020 07:27 (four years ago) link

77-61 Back garden bonhomie
60-41 Close quarters combat and escape from rozzers
40-21 Detour through the docks
20-7 Outlandish outfits on the top deck

I didn't get around to do a tracks ballot, so handed in a ballot consisting of one track. (should've added Dawson's 'Jogging' as a second but forgot). It's albums for me mostly, but stoked for the ~weird~ results!

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 27 January 2020 08:30 (four years ago) link

aaaargh don't say that, could be the difference between 11th and 10th #gutted

Now I regret not doing the same.
