I have almost every Biota release, missing the super rare 1st LP

any luck getting a hold of a copy of hurley's nz/aus tour tape? he must have sold out of them by the time he got to dunedin unfortunately!

Think I managed to keep up with tful282 until about '95. Well everything except the leonard cassette anyway. Don't think I have a complete run of any band that has more than like 3 releases tbh

my desert island tful282 song is Hurricane

I did get the Hurley AUS/NZ tape right around when it came out.
Thinking Fellers last album "Bob Dinners" is super excellent, highest recommendation

sleeve what's the deal with this release:
https://www.discogs.com/Michael-Hurley-Pals-Armchair-Boogie/release/14959679
"Test Pressing of Michael Hurley & Pals* - Armchair Boogie with hand-painted cover." - had not seen that one yet, thanks. Pretty cool looking, from 2019.
My favorite pressing of that is actually the LITA CD version, I think it sounds incredible. Have that and an OG, used to have the Mississippi LP reissue as well but sold it.
― sleeve, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 20:20 (four years ago) link
That is a badass cover.
― Cow_Art, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 20:20 (four years ago) link
it really is
dang I didn't realize there was an 8-track version from 1971!
― sleeve, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 20:22 (four years ago) link
Poked around a little and didn't see any info about the hand-painted one anywhere else.
― Evan, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 20:31 (four years ago) link
I have a feeling the year and the fact that it is its own release as apposed to categorized as a version of the main one are results of a sloppy listing.
― Evan, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 20:41 (four years ago) link
nah if it's really a test pressing for the 2019 reissue then that's a separate entry from the LP reissue itself
― sleeve, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 21:49 (four years ago) link
Yeah but normally it just goes in the list among the versions of the album, in this case next to the retail release version of MR-018.
― Evan, Tuesday, 31 March 2020 22:08 (four years ago) link
OK so yes the year would be correct in that case.
ohh yeah I see what you are saying, yes that's in the wrong place

I thought my most valuable record was:
http://www.discogs.com/sell/release/10960799?ev=rbMobile Fidelity Sound Labs reissue of Dark Side of the Moon
but it could be my sealed Let it Be from 1970 with Korvette's $2.99 price tag going by the asking prices.

Beatles collectors can be insane. How much you think it would go for?
― Evan, Wednesday, 1 April 2020 11:48 (four years ago) link
It's kind of hard to tell. First, it's sealed, so I don't know which version it is exactly. Second, sealed/mint copies listed up to $350, but not seeing that copies have sold that high. My guess is I might be able to get $100-$150?
― Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Wednesday, 1 April 2020 12:12 (four years ago) link
Of course there are a couple copies on ebay between $200-$500 as well.
― Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Wednesday, 1 April 2020 12:18 (four years ago) link

Ha, slow down- you have to add "1970" and sort by new to old, then pick the most recent sale(s) of copies that match yours.

No kidding. I'm shocked to find out that the most (potentially) valuable record I own is this 1978 reissue of the White Album on white vinyl.https://www.discogs.com/The-Beatles-The-Beatles/release/2024459
― Elvis Telecom, Friday, 3 April 2020 01:30 (four years ago) link
to be fair:
"New lacquers were cut for this release."
and from the comments:
"The sound quality on this particular pressing is the very best you'll find, and in my estimation, better than the original UK stereo (I have both). It has a luminous quality that is really compelling."
so it's kind of like that reissue pressing of Bowie's Hunky Dory, where the stars all aligned properly w/r/t sound quality, I hate to sound like a Hot Stamper huckster but sometimes certain pressings really do shine
― sleeve, Friday, 3 April 2020 01:50 (four years ago) link
I've never heard of that White Album on white vinyl. Ha!
― Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Friday, 3 April 2020 02:03 (four years ago) link
The weird thing is that I didn't know it was on white vinyl until after I bought it. Music Mart (RIP) in Costa Mesa just reshrinkwrapped a promo version and put it out on the floor.

I've never cared to do any discogs edit but I came across a version of a Swirlies 7" that isn't there... I feel like I could figure out creating the entry but I'm a little intimidated by it. Everything is relatively clear expect the part about how to add a version of a release rather than a standalone. Anyone have experience with this?

this explains it just as well as i could, and with pictures:

if you're having a hard time with any of that i'm happy to help / clarify
― budo jeru, Tuesday, 21 April 2020 19:07 (four years ago) link
I sympathise. I was all ready to add the new Cowboy Junkies album but I got stuck on which format to use, since it's only available on streaming services, not as a CD or a download. A quick look at the discogs forum confirms that albums only released on streaming services are not eligible for inclusion, since it's not possible to "own" them. Which leaves the Cowboy Junkies discography on discogs sadly incomplete.
― the grateful dead can dance (anagram), Tuesday, 21 April 2020 19:11 (four years ago) link
you should just make bootleg CD-R versions of all the streaming-only stuff and then list them as placeholders until the band has the good sense to actually release their records, at which point some future nerd can merge those releases with yours
― budo jeru, Tuesday, 21 April 2020 19:15 (four years ago) link
it’s not incomplete if they didn’t release it. streaming only is dumb.
― brimstead, Tuesday, 21 April 2020 19:21 (four years ago) link
some future nerd will probably not enjoy having to delete some random homemade CD-R from the database

― ravedeaf nineHEIN?seventyWHO? (Craig D.), Tuesday, 21 April 2020 23:13 (four years ago) link
so bands as “big” as the cowboy junkies are just streaming albums now, not releasing them? that’s totally awesome.
― brimstead, Wednesday, 22 April 2020 04:01 (four years ago) link
fine call it “releasing”, whatever

https://discogs.page.link/1a9Q <- does that work? Not really complete as I put all my collection into CLZ collector before I realised Discogs would be much better, and couldn’t face having to do it all again. Will get round to it at some point but for now this is mainly new purchases and a few of the bigger box sets and stuff.

Hey Ant1973 how's that Blue Notebook reissue? I really liked that album a lot when it came out. Should revisit.
― Evan, Monday, 27 April 2020 14:25 (four years ago) link
I loved the Blue Notebooks when i came out, but I feel like it's been so completely subsumed into tv/movie soundtracks that there's no need to re-listen to it now... it's just kinda ambient in the culture at this point.
― enochroot, Monday, 27 April 2020 14:35 (four years ago) link
Yeah I have a general aversion to music that specifically sounds like a doctor drama theme. That being said, where has Blue Notebooks shown up?
― Evan, Monday, 27 April 2020 14:44 (four years ago) link
I don't use Discogs to log my collection, so here's my seller profile, sorted from priciest downwards.
The most valuable record I own is the UK 7-inch promo of Martha Reeves - No One There, which I don't plan to sell unless I'm in dire financial need.
