All three of these Azana singles are great.

I will def revisit that when the Sun-El album drops (iirc I wasn't as anti as others). Speaking of, are we looking at albums *this summer* from: Sun-El, Azana, Burna Boy, and WizKid?! Should Simmy be on that list too?
― rob, Friday, 3 July 2020 19:47 (three years ago) link
oh man throw Tresor on that list too, wth
― rob, Friday, 3 July 2020 19:49 (three years ago) link
Not sure about Simmy, but we’ve already had Kabza (I know). Davido also promised another album in July.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Friday, 3 July 2020 20:30 (three years ago) link
...but yes, that new Azana track. “Umaqondana” might be my favourite so far.

came across this playlist on Spotify, looks like a perfect match with the music on this thread: Sunday Kind of Love by Filtr South Africa.

New Heavy K, “second single”** from a new project that is promised for 31 July. It sounds great and I'm keeping my fingers crossed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG9aNx4y9zEHeavy-K ft. Natalia Mabaso • Uyeke
(**meanwhile previous single “Tsamaya” with Professor has disappeared from Spotify. Don’t know what’s going on between Heavy and Spotify: the tracks he dropped last year never reached it or have disappeared again, and his 2018 album and 2017 classic "Inde" are no longer there either)

that's really nice (not surprisingly for him). even the part that semi-reminded me of phil collins "another day in paradise", lol

very nice. no idea who votes in these things, but their respective international profiles being the way they are I would not have expected her to beat Rema.

you're not gonna believe this but the Azana is beautiful music
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 17 July 2020 17:17 (three years ago) link
yep, it's good. A bit moodier than I was expecting in some way, and it's a lot to take in, but "Egoli" and especially "Bafazi" stood out on first pass
― rob, Friday, 17 July 2020 17:26 (three years ago) link
reminded me of 90s downtempo in spots, strangely enough
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 17 July 2020 17:31 (three years ago) link
"Egoli" def had that vibe. My possibly off-base first impression is that she followed the Samthing template and the first half is less upbeat and dancey (the "moodiness") and things pick up and bliss out in the second (?)
― rob, Friday, 17 July 2020 17:33 (three years ago) link
I’m at “Bafazi” and holy fuck
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Friday, 17 July 2020 19:23 (three years ago) link
I'm pretty sure the next two are sublime too, but I actually got halfway through Bafazi and started it over so I could relive it XD
― rob, Friday, 17 July 2020 19:29 (three years ago) link
Gorgeous album, nothing much else to say rn, just gorgeous. Azana is so wonderful and commanding throughout.I did notice that Claudio x Kenza produced the majority of the tracks, including “Egoli” and “Bafazi”, while Sun-El is credited for just four. From this I conclude that Sun-El is not just an incredible producer with a great eye for talent but is probably a fantastic mentor as well.

thinking we should redirect the Jessie Ware posse to this album
