Were (Harvey) more than a competent vocal presence I think his solo albums would be pretty impressive.

(I've bounced off his singer-songwriter stuff to the tiny degree I've tried. I wonder how much it's his understated vocal personality, and how much that he just thrives better anonymously arranging / playing / producing most of other people's projects. Outside of the Bad Seeds/Birthday Party he's maybe done a plurality of the members' side projects: playing most of the instruments on the early Crime & The City Solution records and staying in the band throughout that version's lifespan; producing and playing nearly every recording Anita made; working on Rowland's two solo records; drumming and pianning on occasional adjunct Seed Brian Hooper's latter solo records. As well as other absurdly long-running relationships as unheralded sideman/arranger, like playing on all but two PJ Harvey records, and most of her tours, since before her one song with the Seeds; working on Bambi Lee Savage records and gigs for thirty years... Plus the Serge Gainsbourg records* landed better with me, where he's writing the lyrics and the arrangements and playing all the instruments and doing most of the singing but it's all in service of someone else's authorship!)

* the two '90s ones, I haven't heard the more recent two.

I revisited The Boys Next Door ‘Door Door’ album this afternoon & half the album is gonna be on my sideprojects ballot lol

i listened to it a ton in my uni days, brings back so many memories.

one thing i will say for Nick & all of his bands is that the music always has such ~great~ texture, even way back w Boys Next Door.

and def sing the praises of producer/maniac/wild genius Tony Cohen (RIP) - he worked on almost everything from Boys Next Door through No More Shall we Part (which is even more amazing considering how nuts he (and they) were through a lot of that early period)

No, I think we won't treat Do You Love Me as two separate songs for the purpose of counting votes. I suppose it couldn't hurt to specify which version you're voting for, but don't include both on your ballot.

I was asking more in the “Morning Bell” vs “Morning Bell/Amnesiac” sense that they sound unique enough to my ears that they could be considered separate. I wouldn’t put both on my ballot.

My provisional Bad Seeds ballot is not something I would predicted. Turns out I really like a bunch of relatively low-key tracks I previously struggled to conjure in my head from their titles. Plus Your Funeral -- I heart pretty much all of that, but I guess I already knew that much.

Of courtse to be totally topical as soon as you;ve reached any kind of consensus any voting needs to be overturned.

my side project voting ended up being only boys next door & birthday party, i couldnt spare room for grinderman! it just totally paled for me up against all that cool old stuff

after several weeks poking at it, I've broken down, ordered and ID3-tagged the Bad Seeds-era b-sides and side-appearances into an eleven-disc* virtual box set. Now to start listening properly, and then on to the albums!

* if actually pressing this, we could save money by putting "Scum & Pricks '84-86" and "Dirty Sings '88" onto one disc. But I've also made a disc each of live B-sides, alternate takes, and 7" versions, that I shan't be considering for the poll.
