was wondering when that was gonna happen

Just purchased. Thanks! Doesn't ship till May so that'll be a nice surprise after I've forgotten about it. My fourth favorite Coil after HR, MTPIND1, and AoN, but still a perfect record
― Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 19 December 2020 17:35 (three years ago) link
Hmm, so I've heard that the Infinite Fog version there is not necessarily a 'real' reissue. (But what is real?)
In any event, Wax Trax have announced their own specific reissue for June:

Rather.

Check out this all-Coil two hour mix. I don't know if it's an introduction for newbies or a best of or what but I know what I like.

My understanding is that MTPITD and Ape Of Naples are the fans' favourite albums but what would be the top tracks if there was a poll? I'm guessing Tainted Love would be up there.
― paolo, Thursday, 31 December 2020 17:59 (three years ago) link
I think Broccoli would be my fave.
the book is really quite amazing, but it's a bit frustrating that all the magazine articles reproduced are almost all at least partially obscured, I'm guessing to avoid copyright issues
the full page color artwork stuff is just fabulous, and some of the correspondence is too (Cosey getting pissed about the Assume Power Focus boot LP)
otm about Broccoli
― howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:01 (three years ago) link
Would anyone care to scan and upload the entire book for those of us currently in the poor house?
Not serious btw!
I'd be very surprised if Tainted Love made a top tracks Coil poll, much as i love it.
My no. 1 has remained the same for near enough 3 and a half decades. Ostia, always and forever.
― stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:10 (three years ago) link
Broccoli at 2. Going Up at 3. Beyond that, a crapshoot.
― stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:11 (three years ago) link
Someone do a Coil poll!
― stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:13 (three years ago) link
Please.

Why the hell not, what better way to see in the new year
― paolo, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:35 (three years ago) link
I've never run a poll, but I would try that

The Ape Of NaPOLLs - it's the Coil albums poll

wait so what is the deal with the infinite fog reissue? is it not authorized?
― akm, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:50 (three years ago) link
arguably none of the reissues are authorised. i think the infinite fog one is one step away from being a bootleg.
― stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:55 (three years ago) link
It's a little um, unclear what "commissioned artwork by Steven Stapleton" means. I mean.. it was originally wasn't it?

This is all probably upthread somewhere, but did neither of them have any relatives or anything? Surely the assets of an estate would revert to the next of kin under the rules of intestacy, or failing that the Treasury (which would mean the Crown could legally reissue Coil LPs, lol).
― meanwhile back at the song (Matt #2), Thursday, 31 December 2020 21:20 (three years ago) link
Yes, there are relatives but it is ultra complicated and it seems nobody is able to agree on anything so it all sits perennially in limbo.
― stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 21:28 (three years ago) link
consensus feeling that wax trax reissue will be better than the infinite fog one? didn't see any mastering details and infinite fog's bandcamp page is almost impossible to read with dark text on a dark background.
― akm, Thursday, 31 December 2020 23:01 (three years ago) link
I ordered the Infinite Fog one before I saw the Wax Trax reissue announcement so I hope the Infinite Fog one is legit in the sense that it, uh, arrives

Really into S&CS for a few months now. The alternate versions of "Futhur" and "Love's Secret Domain" blow me away every time. Could anyone recommend other stuff in this vein, not necessarily Coil-related?
― manuel, Monday, 25 January 2021 22:30 (three years ago) link
I wish there was more music (by anyone) that sounded anything like Batwings.

Yowsa!
I'm honored to say that I have written the liner notes for the 30th anniversary re-release of Coil's "Love's Secret Domain" LP on WaxTrax! Records. Thanks to @beeradam and Stephen Thrower for assistance coordinating the interviews. Persistence is all.https://t.co/fp8VoWUcQt— DREW DANIEL (@DDDrewDaniel) February 19, 2021

My liner notes draw upon new interviews w Stephen Thrower, Annie "Anxiety" Bandez, Marc Almond, Billy McGee, Rose McDowall, Charles Hayward, Stephen Stapleton and more to shed more light upon the writing, recording & release of this uncannily prescient album. RIP Geff & Sleazy— DREW DANIEL (@DDDrewDaniel) February 19, 2021

That Keenan interview is fantastic, thanks for posting it. Full of unexpected turns. William Bennett liking Lana del Ray? Didn't see that one coming.
― Position Position, Friday, 19 February 2021 04:17 (three years ago) link
David Keenan writes novels now. 'This Is Memorial Device' might be of interest to readers of this thread. It's about a post-punk band in Scotland in the 80s and the various characters they hang about with. If I remember right it doesn't have all that much of a plot but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
― paolo, Friday, 19 February 2021 08:49 (three years ago) link
Is England's Hidden Reverse worth getting by the way? It's out of print so I've seen it going for like £25+ online but it's my birthday soon so I might ask for it then.
― paolo, Friday, 19 February 2021 08:51 (three years ago) link
It was always about £20-25 even new. Definitely worth reading. I loved This Is Memorial Device, less keen on the followup For The Good Times. haven't read the new one and i see a followup already coming: https://www.whiterabbitbooks.co.uk/contributor/david-keenan/

Yikes, I see even the Strange Attractor reprint is sold out now. The original edition on SAF is very rare. Anyway don't hesitate, fantastic book about that whole scene.
xp

England's Hidden Reverse is essential IMO, and I absolutely hate Keenan's writing, style, and opinions on music. It's still essential.

They should put that as a quote on the cover.

I picked up a copy of Wreckers Of Civilisation at a car boot sale that was £1. I say, picked up - the seller then proceeded to surreptitiously check the price online and said they actually wouldn't be selling it.
