im 36 years old i am not attending a big huge festival thing - with 10s of thousands of people and multiple stages etc. - ever again
some "fest" that is actually just different shows at venues in a city - sure, that's a different thing

i only ever attended one festival of that ilk before and i just did cocaine in my tent all weekend and saw beastie boys on the first night and bjork on the last night.

mutek or sónar i would probably still be into
the thing I like about festivals is knowing the times the bands are getting on stage so I don't wait around bored for 40 minutes waiting for a band to come on stage, or if I do get there early, it's cos I'm staking out a good spot.
and I can go back to hotel and nap if I need to without fearing I'll misjudge the time the band goes on.
― Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Thursday, 20 May 2021 21:17 (three years ago) link
but on the flipside, a regular ole show = I only have to muster enough energy to watch 2 or 3 bands, so my back isn't likely to go out
1996: Metallica headlines Lollapalooza, causing much teeth-gnashing.2021: Journey plays Lollapalooza, causes ____________?

yes i forgot about this, this is a very good and fun kind of fest
always wanted to make it to gonerfest in memphis but feel like i missed my window and am now too old to be able to drink enough to have a good enough time at it

atp type festivals with chalets >>> outdoor festivals with tents. past a certain age, anyway.

i've never attended a festival where you camp overnight on the grounds and with any luck i never will
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 21 May 2021 14:06 (three years ago) link
i was born old
but thinking about this reminded me that both times i attended maryland deathfest me and my friends stayed on a houseboat in fells point. 10/10 experience
I have no further need to attend an outdoor music festival of any variety

the thing to remember with large outdoor festivals that take place in cities is that a fair number of people over age 25 just roll in around 6pmI was aghast at this in my early 20s, and with age have realized that the experience of sweating my ass off in the sun to see a handful of acts I’m interested in and killing time checking out a few that might be ok over the course of an entire afternoon is a mediocre value proposition the mixed-venue festivals that take place in the evenings/night time are still for me

I don’t know what this is (it was promoted into my feed), but the number “88” does not have positive connotations for me:

if this constitutes posting in the "worst festival lineups" thread, what constitutes a "good festival lineup" by ILM standards? 🤔
― DT, Monday, 21 June 2021 21:48 (three years ago) link
I mostly posted it here bc I didn't want to start a new thread for it and there's no "okay festival lineups that will give millennials mixed feelings" thread

The most (personally) tantalizing part of the Just Like Heaven poster = "Performing Apologies to the Queen Mary"

I love the Just like Heaven lineup unironically. I’d definitely go if I lived in California. Sure, probably anyone who gives a fuck about those artists is in their mid to late 30’s in 2021 but I’ve seen several of those live and they were great fun. Particularly !!!, Chromeo and Santigold. Who knows if they still have it 15+ years later but they were good live in their prime. MIA and Modest Mouse were not that memorable when I saw them in primaverasound 2007.

I just mentioned it to my wife (she was already aware of it)… we may actually buy tix.(“mid to late 30’s” – bless your heart, lol)

Is there a ’90s equivalent to the ’00s & ’80s themed festivals posted above(?)(I ask because… I Love the ’90s™)
― search term: buttrock (morrisp), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:09 (three years ago) link
Xxpost: mid 30’s to mid 40’s then? Lol
Xpost: In the mid 00’s there was Creamfields which started in the UK and had several 90’s acts attached to it. I’d definitely buy tickets for a 90’s thing too.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:16 (three years ago) link
1. I've gone to my fair share of shows and I was at the right age for the peak of most of those artists and the only ones I've seen live are Modest Mouse (M&A era - my first show actually, yes I started going to shows late) and maybe Wolf Parade? I'm not sure if I've seen the latter but there's like a 65% chance I've seen them
2. so is Goldenvoice just gonna start a festival for every age demographic? have they started one for little kids yet where it's just Pinkfong headlining every night?
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:20 (three years ago) link
them jeans and more cinespace dj’s

The Love the 90’s festival in Madrid just happened a week ago. Need to read some reviews on it, the lineup is sort of deliciously tacky:

Oh wait it seems it has been postponed to 2022
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 01:40 (three years ago) link
Here’s the updated one:
https://www-wakeandlisten-com.cdn.ampproject.org/ii/AW/s/www.wakeandlisten.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/love-the-90-madrid.jpg
I think the main problem here is that most of the artists featured are one hit wonders. I’m all in on the concept though. If you make a 90’s festival with say, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls headlining that shit will outsell Coachella in seconds.

Oh my bad! A bit disappointed that there are not all 90’s acts! I thought that was sort of the concept of the festival!

(I mean 2020 - tickets are sold out for 2021, which is obviously very cool and fine

I feel like this Just Like Heaven festival does an amazing job of capturing the feeling of bands I’ve seen (in the mid ‘00s) and enjoyed but mostly because those were the concerts my friends wanted to go to, and they were kind of the group consensus? There are a few in the mix that were more my taste, but seeing the funnel of time winnow things down into a refined snapshot gives me a hint of nostalgia and a greater hint of “oh, this is what it feels like”
― mh, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:19 (three years ago) link
This fest looks bad-ass, basically the ultimate throwback line-up of acts that long ago perfected the 45-minute long cash-in festival set.
The Once Upon A Time In LA Fest, a one-day throwback rap and R&B party, might have 2021's best festival lineup https://t.co/HKqKwBBrO0 pic.twitter.com/x05BjA7leR— Stereogum (@stereogum) June 22, 2021
