I wonder if that is supposed to be a cool symbol because all I see is a carton dieline.

Their previous tweet was that "symbol" against a plain background so wondering whether it's a slow album cover reveal
― groovypanda, Monday, 1 November 2021 15:00 (two years ago) link
We need to be quick if we want to do a photoshop/MS Paint competition with it before the actual cover is revealed.

"Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt" is quote from Slaughterhouse 5
also one of the most cliched literary references in the history of underground music
discogs alone shows like 160 entries when you search that exact phrase (with some repeats, sure, but still)
Hope that isn't the title

Jason Spaceman using a cliche??????
― imago, Monday, 1 November 2021 18:49 (two years ago) link
ha ha ha, touche
― Paul Ponzi, Monday, 1 November 2021 19:00 (two years ago) link
Uh, you guys remember that "And Nothing Hurt" was the name of the most recent Spiritualized record from 2018.... right?
― Davey D, Monday, 1 November 2021 19:24 (two years ago) link
Yeah, thought that was obvious sorry. As in last album was And Nothing Hurt and the translation of their tweet is the first part of the quote. So new album/companion piece I assumed (as can't imagine they're reissuing their last album)

This is a remake of "Always Forgetting with You," a track off of The Space Project compilation.
Sounds like Spiritualized. Which I love, but I guess I've given up on the notion of being surprised by Jason.

one of the other tracks on this, "Best Thing You Never Had (The D Song)" has also been around since at least 2013.

not completely unfamiliar to this group, but i bought 'let it come down' cd off the back of low covering 'lord, can you hear me'. i got five songs in tonight and had to turn it off... it sounded so cluttered, orchestrally overblown, no dynamics... i don't really think i get it? i tried to crack spacemen 3 when i was younger, but they were lost on me then, too. i wanna like them, though. what to listen to from here?

Lazer Guided Melodies. Less bombastic than LICD but more melodic than S3.
― Cow_Art, Wednesday, 22 December 2021 21:16 (two years ago) link
the S3 version is probably better

I’d say Lazer Guided Melodies as well, maybe try this?

Yep, excellent as usual. Mr. Spaceman is the most reliable purveyor of aural comfort food I know of

it's very nice, altho the opening track is the clear highlight

Oh cool thanks for the heads up.

so I loved their first bunch of albums and have seen them in concert several times and it was always great, but I pretty much gave up on them around Songs in A&E. Should I check this out or will it be more disappointment?
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Friday, 22 April 2022 20:33 (two years ago) link
Let It Come Down is still my favorite Spiritualized album, and I feel like this new album and the last one tap into the soulful, hungover widescreen orchestral vibe of that one better than anything he's done since
― J. Sam, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:34 (two years ago) link
that seems promising, I like Let It Come Down, but it definitely isn't my favorite. I really disliked when he went for more of a raw rock sound, it just didn't work for me, so maybe this is a step in the right direction.
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Friday, 22 April 2022 20:36 (two years ago) link
This one also has a bit of a lo-fi LAGWAFIS feel about it too. You should definitely check it out

My thought listening to this album last night was, man this guy is consistent. I like the new one, he is good at doing what he does.

Mark Refoy with a story he posted just now on FB:
Spiritualized fun factIt’s time for a lazer guided fun fact folks. Back in 1991 Spiritualized were in the process of recording their debut album in various different studios. A studio we spent a lot of time in was Bath Moles. During the recording of 200 Bars it was decided that some accordion was needed. A call was made and an accordion player turned up to add the necessary vibe.Or so we thought. She was a very polite and well spoken lady, not the folkie type we’d been expecting. We played the song and when it came to the part when Kate intoned “One Hundred” Jason said…“we want you to play over the chords B and F# like this - da dada da da da da dada, da dada da da dada dada - yeah? Okay?” There was a moment of silence and she replied…”well I can’t possibly do that.” We were a bit taken aback - ”er, why not? You can play the accordion can’t you?” Somewhat smarted she replied…“yes I can play the accordion but that’s syncopation, it can’t be done on an accordion.” I picked up a guitar and played what we wanted her to play. She said…“that’s all very well and good but an accordion can’t do that.”We begged to differ so a plan was formulated - while she squeezed the accordion, myself and Jason pushed the buttons and played the keys. After a fashion, job done. So the lesson learnt was, three people using all their hands can play a two chord syncopated rhythm on one accordion.
