Happy to be corrected on this, but I believe this is the first published piece where Clapton's bandmates (current or former) are asked about the 1976 racist rant.

Er, what? Do they mean South Asians perhaps? Also where's this working class town called Ripley north of London? There's a village called Ripley in Surrey which looks kinda posh.

I'd never heard about that. The guy's always come off as a selfish knob, tho, so it's not surprising. Also, tbh, never really understood the hoopla? A lot of Black guys did and do this shit a lot better.

East, who has been playing with Clapton since 1985’s “Behind the Sun,” prefers to write off the Birmingham incident as an unexplainable aberration.“In the Olympics, they throw out the best score and the worst score,” he says. “You get the measure of a person not on the day they did the very, very best thing they did and not the day they did the very worst thing they did.”

Heh. Would love to read a 20th Century history book composed on the basis of dismissing a historical figure's best and worst action. 'Lee Harvey Oswald, an unremarkable US Marine...'; 'Lauded Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius...'

If he'd just written about, "Can't feel my hands," performed, of course, w recovered hands, that might have been---uh okay, one man's experience--but go from that to all the other o mang----was not expecting his cotton pickin' fantasy quotes, and would like to see Reid writing a piece about all this---he used to write for the Voice etc---though prob too depressing.

xxxxpost When older people suddenly revert-and-then-some, veering from established/restored image for inst (and others, not him, from lifelong norm), can be sign of dementia---like when the long-apparently-cleaned up Glen Campbell was arrested for drunk driving, mug shot v. don't-tread-on-me---leading to MRI and diagnosis.And/or Clapton himself may have fallen off the wagon, if he'd actually been on it, as claimed.

Sleuthing here:
Les Claypool lives in Sonoma County across the street from Mickey Hart. I went to his house once to pick up a 1" 16 track tape machine. A project came in with 1" 16 track tape and he was the only one in the area with a machine. The studio owner had a good relationship with him. Dude was super cool. He also used to put adds in a local paper looking for musicians to jam with.

🚨🚨🚨🚨 official retraction on Les Claypool 🚨🚨🚨🚨after everyone expressed skepticism on Claypool being a dick I texted him and it was not about Claypool himself, who was fine, but the setup the Claypool Lennon Delirium and the crew. Was a radio in-studio session and they had so much gear that it barely fit in the room.main point of contention w the crew chief was the fact they wanted to have a concert style drum riser in the studio and were upset that the station's freight elevator was not big enough to accommodate.this all happened hours before Claypool showed up and he was pleasantdoubled down on Phoebe Bridgers - "she's a bully"
